Articles

I assume you wrote them.--JamesWilson 20:56, 22 August 2011 (EDT)

Yes, I am the author of the two articles. BHathorn 22:43, 24 August 2011 (EDT)
Then how is it that a Wikipedia editor doesn't know how to format pages? ~ JonG ~ 12:08, 30 September 2011 (EDT)

Anita Perry

The section you've added about her brother is almost half of the article, and would probably fit better in the Rick Perry and/or G.W. Bush articles. It was the interaction between the men that's caused whatever stress there might be. The way the section in the article is written, Mrs. Perry doesn't appear to be involved at all, other than being a sister and wife. --SharonW 12:08, 30 September 2011 (EDT)

Article format

I've tried to fix the formatting and references on your article Chuck Hopson. Please take the time to correct your other articles, and try to use the correct formatting on any new articles you write. Thanks! --SharonW 15:53, 30 September 2011 (EDT)

Articles from WP

Could you please attribute them from WP written by you on the talk page? There's a template for it, and I'll find you the link. Thanks!--James Wilson 19:02, 13 November 2011 (EST)

Bryan Hughes

The Bryan Hughes article you wrote needs to have the in-line references fixed. Was it copy/pasted from somewhere? If it was, and you wrote the original, the talk page needs a disclaimer. --SharonW 12:50, 24 November 2011 (EST)

Edit reversion

I'm curious why you reversed my edit about the name format for Ray Garofalo? The proper format for names is First Middle "Nickname" Last". SharonW 15:03, 11 September 2012 (EDT)

I don't know what was done. The name was misspelled "Garofolo in the heading, and I corrected it to Garofalo. I did not know that I had altered the name. Sorry for the confusion. BHathorn 18:16, 11 September 2012 (EDT)

Shreveport Journal.

Any reason why you took out these ref tags? MattyD 21:29, 11 September 2012 (EDT)

No, I don't know what happened. The article could not be edited on Sept. 11. BHathorn 22:15, 11 September 2012 (EDT)

Reference tags, again?

This edit leaves all kinds of weird stuff in the text of the article. what are you trying to do? MattyD 11:38, 14 September 2012 (EDT)

Are you saying not to use <ref name=> ? Many of the current articles I checked are not allowing editing today. Davidspencer 01:25, 15 September 2012 (EDT)

This one is really weird as well...

Look at Four Price after you made this edit]. As they say, "that ain't right. Please, tell me what you're trying to do with the references and I'll try to help you out, but right now, it looks unreadable. Thanks! MattyD

I was just updating the story and putting <ref> in front of cite web and </ref> at the end of the reference. In the past this has been no problem, but for the past two weeks, it causes the story to go haywire, and the <ref> and </ref> disappear. Some of the stories, such as Gene Reynolds and A. Roswell Thompson, are also locked up and can't be edited. BHathorn 10:50, 15 September 2012 (EDT)

I have repaired Price, Reynolds, Thompson and will check on others. BHathorn 11:50, 15 September 2012 (EDT)

Articles you've created.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I believe that articles about cities are titled just by the name of the city. You've created a bunch that are titled "City, State." You might want to see if you can bring them in line with the existing style. Peace, etc. MattyD 12:00, 25 September 2012 (EDT)

What about cities with the same name in various states? BHathorn 12:02, 25 September 2012 (EDT)
Like Portland? MattyD 12:04, 25 September 2012 (EDT)
You may have to set up redirects or get a sysop to move the articles for you--it's the titles that need to be changed more that the first sentence. MattyD 12:07, 25 September 2012 (EDT)
It should be a case by case thing. Portland is also an historic port-city in Victoria, Australia. There is the famous Alexandria in Egypt. And so on. Click on Kingston - there are many many more towns and cities of that name around the world founded by Brits during the colonial era and named after their home town. I would mention the state unless you are sure it is unique. AlanE 18:45, 25 September 2012 (EDT)
An example of what can happen. In March 2007 an edit to Archimedes mentioned the tyrant of Syracuse with a red link to Syracuse. In October 2007 an article was created for Syracuse New York, heading: Syracuse This enlivened the link in the Archimedes article to make it look (to the very ignorant) as if he lived in upstate New York. It's fixable but would not have happened if the American city had been headed "Syracuse N.Y." or similar. AlanE 19:37, 25 September 2012 (EDT)
I also favor the city, state format for article names. Wschact 21:42, 25 September 2012 (EDT)

Does Conservapedia not use disambiguation pages for such things? MattyD 21:57, 25 September 2012 (EDT)

Yes it does. But Conservapedia is not particularly good at "paperwork". Everyone is focused on their own little realm. The person who wrote "Archimedes" didn't give a toss about the chance that someone would enliven the Sicilian Syracuse with the American one. There were editors who cared but one by one they disappeared or were rooted out by TK because they had possibly shown up across the road at you-know-where at some stage. There is one still editing - WesleyS (hi Wes!) - but he can't be everywhere. Look, let's talk on my talk page. AlanE 22:34, 25 September 2012 (EDT)
Archimedes has his home back, and it's not in New York; try making good corrections to paperwork, and don't worry too much about someone else's "realm". There's always something else to add to  :) Karajou 23:08, 25 September 2012 (EDT)
Thank you for taking the time to fix this. To me, we all owe a duty to our users/readers. That should motivate us to leave our own comfort zones in order to build a better encyclopedia overall, rather than "realm" by "realm". Wschact 23:34, 25 September 2012 (EDT)
Yes, thanks. Perhaps not so much "realms" as demesnes. Every time I have come across a failure in the "paperwork" I have either fixed it or tried to bring it to someone's attention. It hasn't always worked. If you were to guddle into my edits over the years you would come across my frustration. I have been banned for this, because I haven't always been "polite" in my frustration. AlanE 00:43, 26 September 2012 (EDT)

Cattle Kate

Why does this article seem to be about someone called annie instead of kate ? Also why are these articles being copied directly from wikipedia ? Dvergne 21:25, 3 January 2013 (EST)

All you articles should also be classed as copied articles as they are from WP Dvergne 21:28, 3 January 2013 (EST)
I was just wondering about the 'Kate' thing as well. WesleySHello! 21:30, 3 January 2013 (EST)
Again I ask the question why where the articles you are posting deleted from wikipedia ? Can you please answer this question ? Can you also start using the copied from template. Dvergne 21:51, 3 January 2013 (EST)
I was blocked from Wikipedia, and the articles were removed. BHathorn 21:55, 3 January 2013 (EST)
And what was the reason for the blockage ? What username did you use when creating these articles ? Dvergne 21:56, 3 January 2013 (EST)
There really was no reason that I understand. They said I violated copyright by not paraphrasing properly in several instances, but I did not. I gave attribution and gave the notations. I used the name "The Good Grinch". BHathorn 21:58, 3 January 2013 (EST)
Again can I ask you to use this; :{{Copied from|site=Wikipedia|user=BHathorn|site user=}} template instead of adding a talk page message ! Dvergne 21:59, 3 January 2013 (EST)

Do I still use this ""Copied" if the article is not on Wikipedia? If so, where do I put this label? (unsigned by BHathorn)

You would, however you would change to |site= to the site in which it was copied from. You also need to make sure that it was copied legally and not illegally. Dvergne 22:09, 3 January 2013 (EST)
Dvergne, I did not actually copy the articles from Wikipedia. I had them on my own computer file and adjusted the links, etc. It is impossible to copy these articles from Wikipedia, as there is no trace of them there. If I did not have my own copies of the articles, they would have been lost. BHathorn 22:16, 3 January 2013 (EST)
Fair enough, I suggest you add this experience to the some of the censorship at wikipedia articles here. Dvergne 22:26, 3 January 2013 (EST)
If I added my experiences with Wikipedia, it would take many, many screens and would bore you to tears. I doubt many would believe me any way. Ultimately, I can't figure out how Wikipedia stays afloat considering the way it treats the writers. Any writer there must have his own agenda, whether he admits it or not, and one's agenda may not be in line with the grand poo-bahs there. BHathorn 23:13, 3 January 2013 (EST)

How to download photos

I can't find the directions on downloading photos. Can someone direct me to the instructions? Thanks, BHathorn (talk) 11:37, 2 May 2016 (EDT)

This is a bit of an old question--I don't know if you've gotten your answer yet. I don't know of any directions on CP, though other sites such as wikihow offer some. In general, right-click on the image and select the option labeled something like "Save image as..." or "Save as..." You may find this option labeled differently between different Internet browsers. They you simply select a location on your computer to save the file, and click the "save" button. In Chromium-based browsers such as Google Chrome, you may need to download it first, then find it in the bottom bar of your browser and move it to somewhere you can get at later. Does this help? --David B (TALK) 10:17, 29 July 2016 (EDT)

I don't look at my user page much, and just saw your question. DavidB4 told you how to download a photo from Conservapedia. I suspect that you want to upload photos to Conservapedia. First, find a photo that you can share (perhaps following the instructions above) or the URL of the photo on flickr or Wikimedia Commons. Then leave a message on Conservapedia:Image upload requests and DavidB4 will upload it for you and tell you the name of the file that he created. Thanks for all that you do for CP. IRC

Hello,
After some discussion (on my talk page and Andy's) it has been decided that I start an Internet Relay Chat channel for Conservapedia, since our old one has been dead since 2009. It is now registered and somewhat set up. I don't know if you use IRC or are interested in doing so, but anyone with block privileges on Conservapedia can also get block privileges on the new IRC channel. Unfortunately, IRC accounts are deleted after 30 days of being unused, so unless you plan on using the IRC at least once a month, there is probably not much point in registering. In any case, feel free to try it out--if you account gets deleted, we can always make another one later. If you are interested, please let me know!
The IRC channel is: #conservapedia @irc.accessIRC.net
Let me know if you have any questions or need anything else, also! --David B (TALK) 15:41, 11 April 2017 (EDT)

New Template

Hello. I'd just like to inform you that it would be greatly beneficial if you were to assist on working on the following newly created template; Template:Bible Cities

This template was created less than a week ago, and is an attempt to record all the biblical cities of the Old and New Testaments. It would be helpful if you, and other fellow editors at Conservapedia, were to assist in creating articles describing these biblical cities. If you are willing to start making some of these pages, but are not exactly sure how to approach the task, I'd suggest looking at Rhegium or Beeroth, two very (very) recent pages created by myself (Shaaraim is another good example) to get a good understanding at how this thing should be done. If you're willing to go above and beyond, take a look at the page Amphipolis, perhaps the best biblical city page to date. Just to note, this request is optional and you may help out on your own volition.Korvex

Attribution

Hi,
I see that several of the articles you have been publishing (including Ray Hunkins and Gene Reynolds) contain text which is very similar to some which is already available elsewhere on the internet. Are you the original author of this text, and just spreading it around?
Thanks! --David B (TALK) 19:43, 4 September 2017 (EDT)

Yes, original author. The Ray Hunkins bio was deleted in 2016 from Wikipedia. BHathorn (talk) 23:31, 4 September 2017 (EDT)

Okay, so then other people copied it from Wikipedia. That seems to makes sense. Alright, thanks for clarifying that! --David B (TALK) 17:06, 5 September 2017 (EDT)

please backup your recent edits

Please try to either save a copy of your edits, or just refrain from editing for the next 24 hours or so. Conservapedia is changing web servers, and there is a risk that pages might be exported before you make the change, meaning your change will be lost. Thanks for understanding! --David B (TALK) 17:48, 12 March 2018 (EDT)

Hi, I was blocked here... My original username used to be kingdamian1. I wish to get unblocked now, and I regret stupid things I may have done. Is there any way for us to discuss my block? Thanks --Making Idan (talk) 15:20, 9 July 2018 (EDT)

Change title name

I need to change the title of Douglas F. Attaway, Jr., to Douglas Fisher Attaway. He is apparently not a "junior" because his middle name is his mother's maiden name. Can someone do this? ThanksBHathorn (talk) 08:31, 6 March 2019 (EST)

Uploading rights granted

Hi BHathorn! You've been granted uploading privileges. Please be sure to give proper attribution, identify the license, and provide a link back to the source. Images on Wikipedia have an icon to click to see the information required for attribution. Enjoy your new privileges!--Andy Schlafly (talk) 23:12, 2 August 2019 (EDT)

P.S. Please by uploading only images having a "CC" license, or Public Domain ("PD"). Please ask first on my talk page if you ever want to assert "fair use" for copying images, and let's not start with any of those. Thanks!--Andy Schlafly (talk) 00:41, 3 August 2019 (EDT)

Where are the steps to follow for unloading

I don't know where to begin with uploading; need instructions. Thanks. BHathorn (talk) 07:19, 3 August 2019 (EDT)

Please don't upload files bigger than 100k. The instructions are self-explanatory here. Thanks.--Andy Schlafly (talk) 09:49, 3 August 2019 (EDT)
If you have any specific questions, need step-by-step directions, want me to review an image license, or anything else, let me know! I can also look over images which are copyrighted, to give you my opinion on whether or not they can be used here.
Let me know if I can help! --DavidB4 (TALK) 14:04, 3 August 2019 (EDT)

Where did you get the information that you have added to this article? The Wikipedia page was recently deleted because of some copyright violation. If you could provide a link for me that would be very appreciative. --Orb (talk) 13:36, 30 October 2019 (EDT)

This is the WP article. There was no copyright violation that I could find. WP does not seem to understand that facts cannot be copyrighted. Anyway, the copright ruse is a way to kill articles without going through the process "Articles for Deletion."BHathorn (talk) 14:01, 30 October 2019 (EDT)

When you get a chance, would you please see my question here: Talk:Len Blaylock? Thanks! --DavidB4 (TALK) 18:43, 12 November 2019 (EST)

Upload rights

You already have upload rights, but please be sure not to upload anything that is copyrighted. Public domain photos are fine to upload without attribution, or anything with properly licensing for use on the internet such as Wikimedia Commons as long as proper attribution is given (Wikimedia has attribution statements which can be used for photos taken from there). Please ask first if there is any question about it. Flickr is sometimes OK, as long as there is full attribution to the author of the photo and the nature of the rights and link to it.--Andy Schlafly (talk) 18:44, 3 December 2019 (EST)

Andy, I know I have upload rights but do not know how to upload. BHathorn (talk) 19:21, 3 December 2019 (EST)

Template:Infobox officeholder updated

Hi BHathorn, since I noticed that you use Template:Infobox officeholder quite often for page creations, I just want to inform you that a sub-template transcluded into the main one has been improved such that military information can now be added without any red template links popping up (unlike before). If you need any help, the sub-template source code is here. —LiberaltearsMay Dataclarifier be well! 02:19, 13 June 2020 (EDT)

Thanks, liberaltears, for the suggestion. Can you send me a template (or sub-template) that allows the listing of military service> Then I can use that as backup copy. BHathorn (talk) 09:46, 13 June 2020 (EDT)
Alright, here's an example. So if an infobox officeholder template is set up as shown on the left, then the following on the right will appear:
BHathorn

Military Service
Allegiance United States
Service/branch United States Army
Years of service 2000 – 2010
Rank General
Unit  ???
Battles/wars Iraq War
Awards Three Purple Hearts
{{Infobox officeholder
|allegiance=United States
|rank=General
|branch=United States Army
|unit=???
|serviceyears=2000 – 2010
|battles=[[Iraq War]]
|awards=Three Purple Hearts
}}

An important note: if any information for allegiance, rank, branch, and/or etc. is added in, then the military section automatically shows up. I hope this helps, BHathorn. —LiberaltearsMay Dataclarifier be well! 12:07, 13 June 2020 (EDT)

Hi again BHathorn, I'm glad you're familiar with adding military information in infobox officeholder templates, though I should've initially noted that it's only a section for the entire template and not an individual template. As I noticed in your recent page creation here, you used an infobox person template but also added an infobox officeholder template, using the latter only for adding military service information. For that situation and likewise future ones, I would recommend simply using only the infobox officeholder template. That way, all the information (military info included) can be included in one template without requiring a second one. Thanks! —LiberaltearsMay Dataclarifier be well! 23:23, 14 June 2020 (EDT)

Wording sentences in page creations

Hi BHathorn, I noticed in your page creations that the content in some/many of them are mostly copied from the references listed. For example, in here, much of the information was transferred from this external source. While you did re-word most of it, it's better to further re-structure the sentences to show that you can present the information in your own words; in addition, there's also the Conservapedia:Commandments prohibiting copying from other sources. Thank you! —LiberaltearsMay Dataclarifier be well! 23:52, 14 June 2020 (EDT)

Move requests

Hi BHathorn, I noticed your move request here and just want to give a friendly reminder that CP:IUR is for upload requests and not move requests. I previously specified that here (and put a short explanation regarding the matter of moving pages) when you made a move request there around two weeks ago. Thanks! —LiberaltearsMay Dataclarifier be well! 16:37, 16 June 2020 (EDT)

Template:Infobox person updated

Hi BHathorn, I've got great news! I've just added on to the infobox person template such that military information can be added into it without the need to use an additional infobox officeholder template for edits; for usage, the idea is the exact same as mentioned here previously (see here for example of implementation). Hope this helps for your page creations involving infobox person templates! —LiberaltearsMay Dataclarifier be well! | Don't be an anti-Catholic zealot! Wednesday, 17:56, 5 August 2020 (EDT)

Uploading images

Hi BHathorn, I've noticed for a while now that you have "Upload" abilities but haven't made any uploads yet. If you are not yet entirely familiar with how to do so, would it help if I provide a thorough step-by-step explanation on uploading files to CP? —LiberaltearsMay Dataclarifier's mother be all well! Tuesday, 15:51, 8 September 2020 (EDT)

Yes, please send instructions, as I have no idea how to Upload. Thanks, BHathorn (talk)
Alright then, here's the idea:
  1. Find the image online (or your own work) that you want to upload, and make sure it's downloaded to your computer. (note: if you don't intend to keep the image on your computer that you want to upload to CP, only delete it after successfully uploading it)
  2. If you have upload abilities, look the left sidebar on CP, as there should be a link somewhere below "Edit Console" that says "Upload file". Click on it, and you should be at the Special:Upload page. You can otherwise enter "Special:Upload" in the search bar and reach the page that way.
  3. In the "Source file" section, click on "Browse" and double-click on the image you had just downloaded. Glance at the right side pop-up to make sure that it's the correct image you intend to upload. In addition, for "Destination filename" in the "File description" section, a filename should automatically pop up. If the title begins with any number followed by "px-", it's better to remove such, and it's also recommended to replace any appearing underscores with spaces. You can alter any part of the filename except for the ending, which must reflect on the type of image you had downloaded. This means that if the image is a ".jpg", the filename must end in ".jpg", etc.
  4. The "Summary" section is technically optional when uploading, but still important to fill in. Depending on what reuse permissions are associated with the image you intend to upload, there are different templates you may need to choose from, including Template:USGovt tag for public domain, etc. It's important to categorize the images as well, especially with Category:Images for every upload, along with other category links based on the topic; for example, if you upload a picture of a Louisiana state representative, you can add in Category:Louisiana and Category:State Representatives.
  5. Ignore the final "Licensing" part in the "File description" section, as there's no other option than "None selected".
  6. If you followed these steps alright, click on the "Upload file" button at the bottom of the page, and it should work successfully!
LiberaltearsMay Dataclarifier's mother be all well! Tuesday, 16:35, 8 September 2020 (EDT)
It's important to note also, that unless otherwise specified, any image you find online is under full copyright. Sometimes they will specify that you cannot republish it in the Terms of Service, other times they won't. I would suggest skimming through the ToS on the source site to see what they allow. If they don't list any additional restrictions, it might be acceptable to use the image under the "Fair Use" clause on US copyright law. It is often a grey area. If you are going to use an image under this condition, you need to specify in the summary box who actually owns the copyright, the URL source, and that you are using under "Fair Use." Template:Fair use can help with this. If in doubt, assume you can't use it. This is a nuisance, but that's how the law works right now. --DavidB4 (TALK) 16:54, 8 September 2020 (EDT)

I'll look at it again, but I can't follow the instructions. BHathorn (talk) 18:12, 12 September 2020 (EDT)
Here's a very basic example for uploading files: if you are trying to upload this image which you requested on CP:IUR, then firstly right-click the image, click on "Save Image As...", and save it to your computer. Then go to Special:Upload, click on "Browse...", pull up the image you had just saved, and and click on the "Upload File" button at the bottom of the page.

That's great! Please do remember to include in the "summary" box the source (such as web address it came from--not the search engine's link, but the actual source website), the license (if copyrighted, this would be "Fair Use"), and a couple categories. Category:Images should be added to all images, then ideally one or two other relevant categories. In regard to the image's source, if you did find it using a search engine, then while you have that image selected, please left-click directly on that image, to open the source website. Copy down that link, and include it with your upload. Thank you! --DavidB4 (TALK) 12:38, 14 September 2020 (EDT)

Info related to 2020 House elections

Hi BHathorn, given all your awesome contributions, including additions of biographies on Southern politicians, do you suppose there's anything you can add to the 2020 U.S. House elections page, especially with some information on the Texas candidates? You seem to be an expert in that type of area, and given only around two weeks until the general elections, any more useful information would be very much appreciated. There's also some pages on the candidates that have yet to be created, such as on Wendy Davis, who's challenging incumbent Republican Chip Roy in a close race. Thank you! —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Wednesday, 19:14, 14 October 2020 (EDT)

O.K., I'll try to do this by the weekend.BHathorn (talk) 23:45, 14 October 2020 (EDT)
Thank you very much! I've seen some of your articles on U.S. representatives, such as for Will Hurd, and they're fabulous! —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Thursday, 23:57, 14 October 2020 (EDT)
I'm sorry; I forgot to do what I said I would. Just now remembered. I saw that page but I couldn't see what I could do to improve it.BHathorn (talk) 23:43, 1 November 2020 (EST)
Ah, don't worry too much about it. Perhaps you could still create some pages on/add some content to U.S. representatives/candidates for House from Texas, though? For example, I don't think we have a page on Pete Sessions, who lost re-election in 2018 to Colin Allred and is running again in a different district. There's also the candidates running to succeed RINO Will Hurd which I don't believe we have pages for, as well for the Democrat challenger to Van Taylor, etc. I also dunno if there's more information to the pages on Lizzie Fletcher and Wesley Hunt I forgot to add. —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Monday, 23:47, 1 November 2020 (EST)
The candidate running to succeed Hurd is Republican Tony Gonzalez. I didn't even find his full name, education, occupation, or political history at this point. He is a former military officer and has run a more conservative race than Hurd did. His opponent, liberal Gina Ortiz Jones, lost by a thousand votes to Hurd in 2018 and is being strongly pushed to victory by Pelosi. I'll check on Pete Sessions; his father was FBI chief under GHWB.BHathorn (talk)

Hi BHathorn, I noticed that you created quite a few pages on some shows. Just curious, are you familiar with the Ev and Charlie Show? George Parr

Hi BHathorn, since you're an expert on Southern politics/history, would you be interested in starting a CP page on George Parr? He was the ruthless Democrat who controlled Duval County, TX (hence "Duke of Duval") and stole the 1948 Senate election for Lyndon Johnson over Coke R. Stevenson in the primary. It would fit well with the CP pages for Johnson as well as William Sessions, who ultimately prosecuted Parr. —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Monday, 20:20, 14 March 2021 (EDT)

Question about John Tower

Hi BHathorn, I'm just wondering, what do you know about John Tower's opposition to the Civil Rights Act of 1964? Was he like Goldwater who opposed it on libertarian grounds, or was he opposed to civil rights in general like the Southern segregationists were? This article seems to provide some details, though not much info on his positions for the landmark 1964 bill. There's also this, which I can't read without having an account for the site to log in to. What's interesting is that Tower opposed invoking cloture on the filibuster though also opposed some attempts to weaken the legislation, including the Gore amendment which "sought to take the teeth out of the Act". Even more interesting enough, Tower's liberal Democrat colleague Ralph Yarborough, who often is cited as pro-civil rights, voted for the Gore Amendment. —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Monday, 20:45, 25 April 2021 (EDT)

I couldn't find if Tower was ever a segregationist, but for his first two terms (1961-1973) he was very to reliably conservative. He backed his rival, LBJ, on the Vietnam War. Johnson once said that Tower had given him far more support for the war than had Johnson's own party. Then in his last two terms he became a part of the Moderate Republican establishment and supported abortion and opposed the Strategic Defense Initiative proposed by Reagan. He and Goldwater opposed the 1964 law on libertarian grounds, but the Libertarian Party was not born until 1972. Tower was nominated for defense secretary under GHWB but fell short, with a few Republicans opposed him. The post then went to Liz Cheney's father.BHathorn (talk) 21:26, 25 April 2021 (EDT)
Interesting. And I'm also wondering, would you generally associate conservatism to opposing civil rights and liberalism to supporting such? Based on what you've written for the CP article on Tower and several other pages, that's kind of the impression I've gotten. —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Monday, 21:35, 25 April 2021 (EDT)
Quite a few segregationists were considered conservative, Harry Byrd, Strom Thurmond, among them. There were also liberal segregationists, J. William Fulbright, Al Gore, Sr., Lister Hill. There were some Republican segregationists, but the six Republicans, including Tower, Norris Cotton, Milward Simpson, and Bourke Hickenlooper, who voted against the 1964 law, were not segregationists. Simpson of WY had even signed a state civil rights act when he was governor.BHathorn (talk) 21:00, 26 April 2021 (EDT)
We're planning an Anti-lynching law article, and we've found similar arguments. Pat McCarran did not oppose it because he was a racist or segregationist. He opposed it cause the law targetted police who did not protect citizens from the "mob", meaning Chicago cops could be prosecuted for the Valentine's Day massacre while Al Capone got off scot-free, and the law would not stand up in SCOTUS. it was "cosmetic" legislation. RobSFree Kyle! 21:13, 26 April 2021 (EDT)
Some segregationists thought Goldwater was one of them, but he was not a segregationist, having pushed for integration of the Arizona National Guard. He opposed the Civil Right Act of 1964, which put him at odds with most Republican leaders, who had long favored civil rights. He later expressed regret over his vote, as did John Tower. In time both moved to the left in their party. The Goldwater of the 1980s was far different from the Goldwater of the 1960s.BHathorn (talk) 07:30, 27 April 2021 (EDT)

If you're also familiar on Moderate Republicans from the time period similar to those like Kuchel, Javits, and Rockefeller, those would make great articles too.
In addition (I should've specified this initially as well), I had also been thinking that there are some important Northern Democrat figures from the time period as well that could have some articles on, like James Murray, Warren Magnuson, Wayne Morse, and Joseph O'Mahoney. I read from a column by Ann Coulter that they opposed the 1957 Civil Rights Act, which very likely has to do with some amendment votes. —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! About your article on Ed Foreman...

This part had me laughing out loud:

... During Trudeau's sentencing to ten years imprisonment for fraud, Foreman repeatedly interrupted the court proceedings to announce to the judge that he's a former U.S. Representative. After being told to stop interrupting, Foreman was physically removed from the courtroom and arrested.

There's also something else I'm wondering about. What do you know about Foreman's vote against the Civil Rights Act of 1964? He voted both against the first House passage and the final House passage. Was he on par with the other segregationists from his state or was it for libertarian reasons like Goldwater's opposition to the final Senate passage of the Act? Thanks! —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Tuesday, 00:41, 18 May 2021 (EDT).

Not sure why Foreman opposed the 1964 civil rights bill. Maybe his West Texas constituents wanted him to vote that way.BHathorn (talk) 22:25, June 11, 2021 (EDT)

What I also read is that he was born and raised in New Mexico, so his background perhaps was very different from that of his Texas colleagues elected during the 60s. —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! About this section in your William Rainach article

Can you find any sources which state that Waggonner renounced his segregationist stances? Thanks. —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Friday, 19:08, June 11, 2021 (EDT)

I am unsure if Rep. Waggonner renounced segregation. He ran a segregationist primary campaign in 1968 against an African American. He had virtually no opposition from 1970 until he retired in 1978. I think he just stopped talking about segregation once the civil rights agenda was in place. One who never renounced segregation was Jim Johnson, the Arkansas State Supreme Court judge who lost the 1966 gubernatorial election to Winthrop Rockefeller, who was certainly no segregationist. BHathorn (talk) 22:23, June 11, 2021 (EDT)

Hmm, interesting. (you're certainly a top-notch expert on Louisiana politics) Now, I'm also curious, what about Otto Passman, who was a Boll Weevil like Waggonner? Did he later become less openly in support of segregation? —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Saturday, 22:32, June 11, 2021 (EDT)

I don't know if both Waggonner and Passman renounced segregation. I think they just stopped talking about it. I don't think the term "Boll Weevil" had been coined when the two were in Congress. Passman was particularly known for his opposition to foreign aid.BHathorn (talk) 23:42, June 11, 2021 (EDT)

I'm just wondering...

Do you know anything about Jackson Stephens, who I believe was associated with J. William Fulbright and the Clintons? Correct me if I'm wrong, but seems that we don't have a CP page on him yet. Thanks! —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Wednesday, 00:07, June 16, 2021 (EDT)

Is Jackson Stephens of the Stephens Law Firm in Little Rock, where HRC worked in her early years? I do recall W. R. "Witt" Stephens as a major player in AR politics. Could Jackson be his brother?

Here's a link: https://www.stephens.com/about-stephens/witt-stephens/BHathorn (talk) 06:18, June 16, 2021 (EDT)

Yes, they are brothers. Unfortunately, Google isn't much help. I only found these two results: " An article in the Arkansas Gazette described Jackson Stephens, at the time the chairman and CEO of the investment banking firm Stephens Inc., as a longtime friend of Fulbright." And this one for an unpublished photograph. There are plenty of references to Stephens as "the first recipient of the J. William Fulbright Award" after Stephens put up the money to name the school after Fulbright. This is all rather odd, being the two had a decades-long relationship, but according to Google, they barely knew each other, other than all this backslapping involving millions of dollars. Note about file sizes in thumbnails

Hi BHathorn, I'm noticing here that you're likely trying to enlarge the image in the thumbnail to no avail. This is a problem I've encountered before, and it has to do with the fact that when putting files in thumbnails, the maximum possible size you can use is that of the original file specified on the respective file page. To get around this problem, I created Template:Image Thumbnail left and Template:Image Thumbnail right. Hope this helps! —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Monday, 20:08, June 27, 2021 (EDT)

Thanks for this template. I got it to work, but with multiple pictures in one article, the photo stack right to left rather than right down. Anyway to make them stack vertical instead of horizontal? BHathorn (talk) 13:50, June 28, 2021 (EDT)

Okay, it should be better now. To get them to stack from top to bottom rather than side by side, I just had to add class="infobox" into the table settings for the two templates. —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Monday, 16:44, June 28, 2021 (EDT)

About your edit here...

The two images in the infobox are meant to have the same height; since their aspect ratios are different, setting their side-by-side lengths to be the same results in an extraneous space. If you do want to alter the image sizes, please make sure the resulting top-to-bottom lengths are the same. Here's the simple formula that can be of great use here:

  1. Pick a particular length by pixel you want the height to be for both images (175px, 280px, etc.).
  2. For the left image, go to the respective file page and observe the aspect ratio; for whatever "??? × ???" value you get, divide the number on the left by the number on the right, and multiple that by the particular height in pixels you chose; set that as the size for the image.
  3. Repeat Step 2 with the right image.
  4. If you're satisfied with the image sizes, then publish! If not, repeat the process starting at Step 1 with a different pixel value for the set height.

When it comes to infoboxes like the one in the Ev and Charlie Show article, ensuring that the images used have the same height makes them look neat and professional for readers. Thanks! —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Monday, 17:06, June 28, 2021 (EDT)

Given your current page creations on Kentucky politicians...

Can you please see if you can get articles started on Marion Eugene "Gene" Snyder and James S. Golden with sizeable amounts of info? Snyder represented the 3rd and 4th districts of Kentucky from the 60s to the 80s, while Golden represented the 9th and 8th districts mostly in the 50s. I tried finding some info about them a month or two back, but got basically nothing interesting. About your William C. Cramer article...

Hi BHathorn, can you fix and further clarify a sentence here which says:

"In 1949, Cramer switched his partisan affiliation from Democrat to Republican.[5] largely because of disfranchisement of African American, whorican American]]s as voters since the turn of the century by discriminatory application of the state constitution and subsequent laws Blacks formerly comprised the majority of the Republican Party voters."

So did Cramer become a Republican because he sympathized with the struggles of blacks in the South during the time period? Also, I furthermore noticed that you cited Cramer v. Kirk: The Florida Republican Schism of 1970, which I assume is one of your publications from many years ago. Is there any way I can get full access to it for free? I would be very interested to read all of your official published journals on Southern U.S. politics. —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Wednesday, 18:11, July 28, 2021 (EDT)

The article was garbled and has been corrected. I have a hard copy of the "Cramer v. Kirk" article somewhere. It came out in the spring of 1990 in Florida Historical Quarterly. Cramer voted against the 1957, 1960, and 1964 civil rights acts but supported the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the open housing law in 1968.BHathorn (talk) 21:10, July 28, 2021 (EDT)
Thank you BHathorn! And would you know the further reasons for Cramer's votes on those civil rights bills, namely if his opposition to the Civil Rights Acts of 1957, 1960, and 1964 were on libertarian grounds? Given that his support base was a coalition of Northern migrants and minorities (including Cuban-Americans) which elected him to Congress, it doesn't seem as if he would have been a racist. —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! A few questions

Hi BHathorn, there are a few things I'm wondering about that you likely have an expertise on. For example, what do you know about B. Carroll Reece? Since you're probably able to access certain documents and publications I can't, maybe there are some interesting facts you can add onto that page that I haven't gotten to? There's also the Reece Committee article which I'm currently going to work on expanding; if you know anything about that to help expand the article regarding details I haven't added yet, it would be very much appreciated also!

All I know about B. Carroll Reese is that he was a Republican U.S. Representative from eastern Tennessee in the 1950s. I am unfamiliar with the Reece CommissionBHathorn (talk)

Also, while examining the roll call vote for the Dyer anti-lynching bill of 1922, I'm noticing that the Texas congressional delegation consisted of a lone Republican, Harry Wurzbach, who voted yea. Maybe we can collaborate in creating a CP article on him? Sounds like an interesting political figure.

Wurzbach held the House seat that LBJ later filled. A street and parkway in San Antonio is named for him. It's now the Chip Roy seat and called District 19.BHathorn (talk) 07:25, August 8, 2021 (EDT)
And would you know anything about Wurzbach's political leanings? He definitely seems like a traditional pro-civil rights Republican as opposed to the later closet Democrats who infiltrated southern state GOPs. FascinatingPolitics has an MC-Index to track the ideology of members of Congress based on their votes for a variety of issues, and his analysis for the 1921–1923 session shows that Wurzbach voted with the conservative side 60% of the time. However, that's about the most I can find for this specific area in terms of his congressional tenure. —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Sunday, 11:33, August 8, 2021 (EDT)

About the template formatting in the Hugh Scott article...

Would you mind if I try to fix some problems related to that right now? Just asking slightly ahead of time to avoid a potential edit conflict and/or confusion. Thanks! —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Thursday, 15:10, August 19, 2021 (EDT)

:Yes, please do so
Alright, both the Hugh Scott article and the template you created should be fixed now. So here's the thing: Template:Officeholder is different from Template:Infobox officeholder. In the former, adding individual sections for different offices/positions requires individual subtemplates. That's why CP has templates such as Template:Officeholder/senator, Template:Officeholder/representative, Template:Officeholder/governor, etc. Thus, Template:Officeholder functions differently than Template:Infobox officeholder in usage. And for certain political positions like Senate GOP leader, there most likely aren't corresponding "sub-templates" for such. There's also Template:Officeholder/misc, though it's basic and other potential sub-parameters (like |deputy= or |lieutenant=, etc. etc.) weren't put into the source code. Since I noticed that you created Template:Officeholder/Senate Republican Leader, I just copy/pasted the source code from Template:Officeholder/senator and adjusted the key parameters as needed.
I also added a source code in Template:Officeholder/Senate Republican Leader that you can copy/paste in the future. However, next time you're more than welcome to replace an officeholder template with an infobox officeholder template, which you're used to using. Hope this helps! —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Thursday, 15:33, August 19, 2021 (EDT)

Perry W. Howard, II and Robert A. Taft

Hi BHathorn, when I was reading your excellent article on Wirt Yerger, I saw that you made a rather brief mention of Perry Wilbon Howard, II, for whom I started an article on yesterday. Now, I noticed in your Yerger article that you said Howard supported Robert A. Taft, Sr., for the GOP presidential nomination in 1952 over Eisenhower, and also had put in:

Taft said, "No segregationist belongs on a Republican ticket or even in the party."

Now, was that quote actually by Sen. Taft or his son? When I looked it up, a number of sources say that the quote was actually by the latter. Also, is there any significant mention of Howard in your publication "Challenging the Status Quo: Rubel Lex Phillips and the Mississippi Republican Party (1963-1967)," and if so, perhaps you can add a few more additions/citations/copyedits as helpful to the Perry W. Howard, II article I started? Thank you once again! —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Friday, 15:45, October 15, 2021 (EDT)

The quote in question came from the Hattiesburg American on October 24, 1963, in an article on the gubernatorial general election. If you think Robert Taft, Jr., made the comment, rather than Robert, Sr., what is your source? I would recommend removing this quote if its authenticity cannot be established.BHathorn (talk) 17:22, October 15, 2021 (EDT)
Well, Wikipedia's article on the Hattiesburg American cites your publication in asserting that the quote was attributed to Robert, Jr. rather than Robert, Sr. When searching it up, a few other sources seem to say the same thing as well. —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Ah, darned. Well, given that other sources which cited it say the quote was attributed to Taft, Jr. rather than Taft, Sr., an assessment which you appear to think is correct, then I think that particular assertion in the Yerger article should either be further clarified in a manner which doesn't excessively stray off-topic, or just removed. Could it be possible that when you made an accidental error when writing that CP page? —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Friday, 17:47, October 15, 2021 (EDT)

Gene Snyder

Hi BHathorn, I noticed for your page creation on Kentucky U.S. representative Gene Snyder that you list his middle name as "Eugene." However, was it Eugene or simply Gene? Both bioguide and The Political Graveyard list the latter. In addition about that article, I noticed that you cited an obituary from the Louisville Courier-Journal. Is this it?

Thanks! —LTMay D.C., his mother, and I.S. be all well! Sunday, 21:49, November 6, 2021 (EDT)

Is that Find a Grave source correct about his full name though? Other sources, including this obituary from Press-Telegram, don't list "Eugene" as his middle name. Can you help add content on candidates in the 2022 midterms?

Hi BHathorn, can you perhaps help create articles on candidates running in the 2022 midterm elections? For example, the election in Texas' 28th district seems like an interesting one. Henry Cuellar seems like a comparably less left-wing Democrat in the House, and is facing a primary challenger from progressive Jessica Cisneros (maybe you can help get an article on her going?), who's supported by the Sunrise Movement. According to Roll Call, the Republicans running for the seat include Sandra Whitten and Ed Cabrera. Due to the district's swing towards Republicans in 2020, it may be a tossup.

Also, there's the 2022 gubernatorial elections; if you can start pages for any one of them, that would be appreciated and I'll do my best to expand as helpful.

In addition, would you know if Alma Arredondo-Lynch might be mounting a primary challenge against Tony Gonzales in 2022? Arredondo-Lynch seems to be more anti-establishment than Gonzales, who the GOP establishment supported in 2020, if I recall correctly.

Thanks! —LT (The Old Right was right!) Friday, 21:13, December 2, 2021 (EST)

Dentist Arredondo-Lynch has a spine of steel. I haven't read if she will mount a third primary challenge for District 23, my district. She endorsed Tony Gonzales in 2020 after she was eliminated from the race with a weak third place showing. He is much more moderate than she is. As for Cuellar, no longer my district representative, I believe he has voted with the party-line at least 99 percent of the time. I'll see if I can come up with some articles for 2022.BHathorn (talk) 07:00, December 3, 2021 (EST)
