== Edit War with Conservative ==

CPWebmaster, I was upholding the decision of the panel. See the discussion on Philip J. Rayment's talk page [http://www.conservapedia.com/User_talk:Philip_J._Rayment#question_regarding_pro_evolutionary_books_being_added_to_TOE_article here]. The Panel approved a version of the article ''with'' the free online text of "The Origin of Species", though Conservative removed the link merely eight minutes before the Panel made it's decision (Conservative removed book at 18:21 April 9, decision made 18:29 April 9); clearly too short of a time, as the panel had been deliberating for quite some time. Andy has also made his anti-censorship view very explicit. Other sysops had also supported the inclusion of the book, as it is the single most relevant book on the topic that exists. The pro-inclusion sysops provided their reasons and justifications, though Conservative kept reverting without ''any'' justification, or discussion (except for an attempt to draw the conversation off topic at [[Talk:Theory of evolution]]). Perhaps you should warn [[User:Conservative|Conservative]] to not work against what has been made explicitly clear. --<font color="#0000CC" face="Comic Sans MS">[[User:Hojimachong|'''Hojimachong''']]</font><font color="00FFAA">[[User_Talk:Hojimachong|talk]]</font> 19:56, 18 April 2007 (EDT)

::::::: I fully understand that edit wars are bad to engage in, and should be avoided. But I think you are missing my point as well; There was evidence to back up a specific view, posted on the talk page, and told to Conservative even ''before'' he removed the books (He ''asked'' Philip J. Rayment about removing the books. Philip said he shouldn't; Conservative did it anyways). I think Conservative needs to be reprimanded in some way, shape, or form; I don't see him being warned for the edit war. --<font color="#0000CC" face="Comic Sans MS">[[User:Hojimachong|'''Hojimachong''']]</font><font color="00FFAA">[[User_Talk:Hojimachong|talk]]</font> 20:19, 18 April 2007 (EDT)

CPWebmaster, I want to highlight two things that you said:
+
==Web question==
* "''I'm talking about the revert wars in general, not so much this specific case.''"
+
* "''You're dodging the bullet. Please just don't get into any revert wars. They waste everyone's time.''"
+
Okay, perhaps Hojimachong has been involved in other edit wars; I haven't checked.  And if true, and if that is not true of Conservative, then perhaps you do have a defence for what is otherwise a prima-facie case of favouritism.  But you also seem to be "dodging the bullet" yourself.  On Wikipedia, ''both'' editors would have been given blocks twice over for this particular incident, and ''both'' editors are "wasting everyone's time".  You also said:
+
* "''Where does the Panel's decision state that the ref's cannot be changed? It doesn't.''"
+
That's precisely the point.  I "changed" (added) some references (books for further reading), and Conservative started the revert war (in the sense that he made the first reversion) by removing them on the grounds that they were against the Panel's decision.  You have here acknowledged that they are not against the Panel's decision, indicating that it was Conservative who was in the wrong, yet it is Hojimaching that you are warning.
+

Just to avoid any misunderstanding, I agree with Conservative's worldview, and disagree with some of Hojimachong's.  And it was Conservative that first suggested that I be a sysop. It pains me to have to take a stand against him on this, but I believe that truth and justice <!--I'll skip the bit about the American Way :-) --> warrants it in this case.
+
Hey, so you're the webmaster? I was wondering, you know how lots of websites have that little mini-logo up at the beginning of the URL at the top of the page? I was wondering if maybe you knew how to make one. I think it would look good if CP could have a logo in the URL, instead of the search engine logo which appears now. What do you think? :Well spoken, Philip.  For me, this all fell under the "two wrongs don't make a right" consideration.  Those who have been around more than a month know I have publicly disagreed with Sysop Conservative many times.  Not on ideological or political grounds, but because of this absolute unwillingness to engage others, or even answer their questions.  And I don't agree with blocking people without some explanation, if only to fellow Sysop's.  He has gotten much better at responding, however.  All of the points above, raised by everyone don't make engaging in a squalid public fight over editing, conducted by Sysop's, right.  It is hard to preach to editors not to do something Administrators are constantly doing, eh?  No matter if it is reverting each other's edits, or reverting blocks, it is the same principle;  "Do as I say, not as I do".  I think that is more what the Webmaster's point was, knowing full well the danger of supposition. ;-) --~ [[User:TK|Sysop-TK]] [[User_talk:TK|/MyTalk]] 03:10, 19 April 2007 (EDT)

::: I was having the same problems, but now some of them seem to be fixed too. Thank you for all the hard work you've done. The math pages still have some issues: see [[:Category:Mathematics]] for a sample of pages with names that had non-English characters that have now become garbled. Redirects from the unaccented pages are throwing database errors too: see [[Sierpinski triangle]], which redirects to the problematic "Sierpiński triangle". I looked into other fallout with the math articles and it seems "Sierpiński's constant" (which became "<nowiki>Sierpi%C3%85%E2%80%9Eski%27s_constant</nowiki>") got deleted before the cause of the problem was ascertained. I don't remember that page, but based on the time of the deletion, I'd guess it was mistakenly deleted when the garbled characters suddenly appeared when CP came back online. It probably should be undeleted. I can only imagine what miracles you're pulling behind the scenes. Keep up the good work! Hey CPWebmaster, I'm really sorry to burden you with yet another issue, but I've just now discovered a problem that I think may not be fixable. The [[Front de libération du Québec]] was recently deleted by a sysop, so I assumed that there was another bad title due to the special characters. However, with every title previously, I've been able to access the "messed up" title, and then I could just point it to a sysop and the sysop could move it. With this article - I can not access it. You can verify that the page exists [http://www.conservapedia.com/Special:Search?search=+in+which+British+Trade+Commissioner+%5B%5BJames+Cross%5D%5D+was+kidnapped+and+Quebec+Labor+Minister+%5B%5BPierre+Laporte%5D%5D+was+murdered.&go=Go here],but sadly the link doesn't work - it takes you to the correctly formatted page - which was deleted (and even if the page wasn't deleted, it would be useless anyway). My only hope is that perhaps it's my computer or maybe that you know of some back alley you could possibly take (or perhaps you could at least access the content of the article). I'm sorry I can't offer you any help, but I wish you the best of luck. Once again, I apologize for being the bearer of bad news.--<small>[[User:Iduan|<span style="color: #FFCCCC; background: #660000">I]][[User_talk:Iduan|<span style="color:#CCCCFF; background:#000033">Duan]]</span></span></small> 21:36, 11 February 2009 (EST)

Once more thing: for a wiki of this description, [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Oversight Oversight] might be quite useful. Earlier today a malcontent started blanking pages en mass; I was reverting him/her, but since many of the pages contained external links I was slowed down by the Capcha system while the page-blanker remained blithely unaffected. To all senior admins and sysops. I am being repeatedly abused by user:conservative who, among other things, accuses me continuously of being an atheist simply because I point out some of the holes in his articles. See [http://conservapedia.com/index.php?title=Talk:Main_Page&curid=113357&diff=924642&oldid=924636 here for the latest accusation]. I have asked him numerous times to desist with his sneering name calling as I find it offensive to have my faith questioned and nothing is ever done. He state’s I am atheist because I don’t agree with some of his ridiculous contentions. In actual fact it isn’t even that I disagree with him it is that I point out his shoddy research, poor scholarship and his berating, insulting and sarcastic behaviour towards others. I am of the opinion now that he is purposely calling me names because he knows I don’t like it which is unchristian, impolite and, above all, insulting. Is anyone going to teach this man some manners? Has Conservapedia become a place where Conservative is allowed to behave this way without any warning or comeuppance but all other editors and warned and blocked for minor infractions. He is in continual violation of the commandments yet NOTHING is done whereas people like myself are always watching out to avoid being banned. Well, fine, ban me if you like. I probably will be after this posting and no doubt Conservative will cackle with glee at “winning” again. But laugh Conservative, you win nothing. I post this is full knowledge that I might be blocked banned and insulted by you in my absence and I have always remained polite and civil plus I can hold my head up high. Hopefully one of you will take a stand and insist on standards of civility. But I don’t hold out much hope. Thanks, many of you were kind, decent people whom I enjoyed working with and I pray for you. [[User:MaxFletcher|MaxFletcher]] 19:21, 5 October 2011 (EDT)

::If homo neanderthalensis is human as you said above, then why not list it with Homo sapiens?  CPWebmaster, I can not understand why you would perceive AIG as more valid than the Smithsonian.  There are thousands more scientists working and submitting to the Smithsonian than AIG.  This provides a more critical environment for research.  AIG struggles to have PhDs write articles within the scope of their discipline.  How many times have you seen a physicist write about biology at AIG?  The point is that if you plan to use taxonomy to describe an organism then you must follow taxonomy rules to describe the organism.  Meaning if you wish to say that Neanderthal was a subspecies of Homo sapiens then you need to list Neanderthal as Homo sapiens.  Otherwise you need to place it back with homo neanderthalensis.--[[User:Tims|TimS]] 12:01, 14 May 2007 (EDT)

I see that problem has gone, although the maths codes themselves are still not working. Philip J. Rayment 08:18, 3 February 2009 (EST)
I saw changes to CP Desk just now, clicked on it, got this message:

A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:

(SQL query hidden)

from within function "MathRenderer::_recall". MySQL returned error "1267: Illegal mix of collations (latin1_swedish_ci,IMPLICIT) and (utf8_general_ci,COERCIBLE) for operation '=' (localhost)".

--₮K/Admin/Talk 17:06, 3 February 2009 (EST)

Yea, that was the error Philip just mentioned above. I was testing the math out, apparently I haven't got it working yet! CPWebmaster 17:10, 3 February 2009 (EST)
I was having the same problems, but now some of them seem to be fixed too. Thank you for all the hard work you've done. The math pages still have some issues: see Category:Mathematics for a sample of pages with names that had non-English characters that have now become garbled. Redirects from the unaccented pages are throwing database errors too: see Sierpinski triangle, which redirects to the problematic "Sierpiński triangle". I looked into other fallout with the math articles and it seems "Sierpiński's constant" (which became "Sierpi%C3%85%E2%80%9Eski%27s_constant") got deleted before the cause of the problem was ascertained. I don't remember that page, but based on the time of the deletion, I'd guess it was mistakenly deleted when the garbled characters suddenly appeared when CP came back online. It probably should be undeleted. I can only imagine what miracles you're pulling behind the scenes. Keep up the good work! You have all our support. -Foxtrot 17:12, 3 February 2009 (EST)

Joaquin

His page seems troubled again, and it appears there is a re-direct to a re-direct? Anyway, just another item for your list when you get caught up!  :p --₮K/Admin/Talk 03:30, 4 February 2009 (EST)

In the mid time could I get the possibility to upload new images? Joaquin --JMR10 15:17, 4 February 2009 (EST) --JMR10 20:34, 5 February 2009 (EST) --JMR10 23:02, 7 February 2009 (EST)

Sysops

I am back. I just need to recover the tools of sysop. --Joaquín Martínez 09:19, 9 February 2009 (EST)

Funny characters

Hi. Just to let you know that there are still a very few pages where special characters seem to be causing problems - see Special:DoubleRedirects (in the case of Machiavelli and Balboa, I can't access the pages they are redirecting to). Not a big problem, but one that could use tidying up when you have time. Thanks--CPalmer 10:27, 10 February 2009 (EST)

Unaccessible Titles

Hey CPWebmaster, I'm really sorry to burden you with yet another issue, but I've just now discovered a problem that I think may not be fixable. The Front de libération du Québec was recently deleted by a sysop, so I assumed that there was another bad title due to the special characters. However, with every title previously, I've been able to access the "messed up" title, and then I could just point it to a sysop and the sysop could move it. With this article - I can not access it. You can verify that the page exists here, but sadly the link doesn't work - it takes you to the correctly formatted page - which was deleted (and even if the page wasn't deleted, it would be useless anyway). My only hope is that perhaps it's my computer or maybe that you know of some back alley you could possibly take (or perhaps you could at least access the content of the article). I'm sorry I can't offer you any help, but I wish you the best of luck. Once again, I apologize for being the bearer of bad news.--IDuan 21:36, 11 February 2009 (EST)

Wow that's amazing - great job!--IDuan 22:50, 11 February 2009 (EST)

Bible references

Sorry to bother you again, but it seems there's a problem with the automatic Bible reference tagger. The links (like this: Numbers 17:13) only work if you have certain skins chosen (see User talk:Ed Poor#New page). This is a really useful feature so it would be good to get it working for all users in my opinion. Thanks--CPalmer 12:29, 19 February 2009 (EST)

Page Count

Hey, Conservative ended up resetting the page count on evolution from 500,000 to 0 by deleting the page. I tried restoring the page, but only the history was restored and the page count is still the new one. Do you know how to get the old page count back?? AddisonDM 20:42, 3 March 2009 (EST)

  • Addison, the page count you see is internal, means absolutely nothing, and does not effect our rankings, or anything else, as the search engine bots don't read the internal counters. If a Senior Administrator like Conservative does that, I would advise you to check with Mr. Schlafly before initiating any actions on your own. --₮K/Admin/Talk 20:52, 3 March 2009 (EST)
Actually I talked with him telling him this and he asked if I could restore the internal page count. AddisonDM 20:54, 3 March 2009 (EST)
Well, then actually, he should have asked, but we have been through this before with him, and it could not be reset, was the answer we got then. No matter, I am sure Phillip will do what he can.  :D -- --₮K/Admin/Talk 21:19, 3 March 2009 (EST)

Spellcheck

I noticed on another wiki that when editing an article, misspelled words were underlined by red, like in Microsoft Word. Is this part of the wiki software? If so, maybe it should be installed? I don't know if you know how, but please look into that. It would eliminate many mistakes in our articles. AddisonDM 22:09, 20 March 2009 (EDT)

suggested searches

Hey Philip, you know how on Wikipedia when you begin to search it pulls down as list, and if you mistype something it comes up on the next page with "Were you looking for...." Do you know if those are features we could turn on here, or do they have to do with which version of MediaWiki is installed? AddisonDM 14:01, 9 June 2009 (EDT)

Page-blanking

A thought: would it be possible to make Capcha take effect when a page is blanked? Earlier today a malcontent started blanking pages en mass; I was reverting him/her, but since many of the pages contained external links I was slowed down by the Capcha system while the page-blanker remained blithely unaffected. The software must be able to spot page-blanking, because I seem to recall it gives an automatic edit summary 'removing all content from page'. Worth looking into?--CPalmer 18:27, 19 June 2009 (EDT)

Article Request

Just something that I wanted to ask...could you please take down that 'satire of atheism' picture on the Atheism article? Or unlock it so that I can take it out? It seems rude and biased, as well as being false in its statement. Or, add a 'satire of christianity' to the Christianity article. KnightOfTheNight 21:45, 11 July 2009 (EDT)KnightOfTheNight

  • You must be confused, Knight. This is a Christian wiki, a conservative and Christian encyclopedia. What atheists are displeased about, bothers us not at all, and we don't apologize for that. We don't try to be neutral at all, either, for that would mean ignoring facts and the truth. --ṬK/Admin/Talk 00:12, 12 July 2009 (EDT)

User rights

Philip- My younger brother Mark just registered for the economics course homework under the name of MarkGB, and cannot edit. I noticed that you said in an edit summary that new users were having trouble editing. Can you give him the appropriate rights please? Thanks, Duncan

Stray HTML tags

Hi. I've just noticed that when you look at an old version of a page (eg this one, the header saying that it is an old version of a page contains some stray HTML tags. Is this a problem that can be fixed?--CPalmer 11:55, 18 January 2010 (EST)

Double redirects

Hello. I was going to fix the double redirects and was able to get to two of them but the rest are locked to prevent editing. Most of them seem to be talk pages for various "essays". I wouldn't have bothered you but the person who did the locking has his talk page locked and I cannot figure out how to bring up this subject with the individual. Thank you and God bless. Problem with the database?

Hi, you seem to be the tech guy of this wiki - I got your name via Help:Contents's "handy list" of bureaucrats. My question: is there a problem with the database? At least two of my comments vanished without leaving any trace. The damage isn't great: I was able to reconstruct the longer comment from a draft which was still stored in my cache. But perhaps other users were afflicted by such glitches, too. I would really appreciate if you could have a look into it! Thanks, AugustO 09:54, 3 May 2011 (EDT)

Bible Translation Project

I am going to start a Bible Translation project for the Philippines. I would like to talk with some folks to learn some insights, especially "what we would do differently had we only known from the beginning...".

My conservative views are very similar to many that I see. I would appreciate any advice, tips, ect.

Thanks.

Request for Admin assistance

To all senior admins and sysops. I am being repeatedly abused by user:conservative who, among other things, accuses me continuously of being an atheist simply because I point out some of the holes in his articles. See here for the latest accusation. MaxFletcher 19:21, 5 October 2011 (EDT)

notification of time of Internal Server Error

At CDT 5:19-5:21 I kept encountering Internal Server Error with instruction to notify webmaster of time it happened and what I had done when it occurred. I had clicked a link from a Conservapedia article to external Bible text, and then could not get back to the Conservapedia article, not even from my Favorites list link. When I did get back to the main article, clicking on the particular part of the table of contents in the article to get to where I had been only produced another Internal Server Error. Clicking "back" arrow at top of page only produced either the same notification or the main article and the notification when I clicked the table of contents.
