Congratulations!

Congratulations on your very well deserved promotion to Sysop and other privileges!--Andy Schlafly 13:48, 28 February 2010 (EST)

Oh wow! Thank you so much! I'm very excited about this, and I hope I can continue to build our courses here for a long time. JacobB 13:49, 28 February 2010 (EST)
Perseverance and hard work are conservative values, and they pay off! Congrats, Jacob. --ṬK/Admin/Talk 14:19, 28 February 2010 (EST)
Super job, welcome to the top.--Jpatt 14:20, 28 February 2010 (EST)

Thank you all! JacobB 15:59, 28 February 2010 (EST)

Blocked?

I really don't understand why you blocked me for "last wordism." Is that basically a way to prevent further discussion as to result in not moving the article, as you favor? Or, if it really was for last wordism, I'm not the only one who's guilty of such.

It's not like great reasons were given for having Obama's middle name in the article title, anyway. All the reasoning I've read so far for having Obama's middle name in the article:

  • Obama tries to soft-peddle his Muslim roots, so let's bring attention to that fact
  • Something about Hussein bin Ali and 700 years
  • Obama likes change, so let's move away from tradition (?)
  • There's a big difference between Hussein and Jefferson, which, quite honestly...so?
  • He was inaugurated with the name (but so were many other presidents)

I don't see anything on how his name should be formatted differently, leaving a "hole" in the argument as DerikJ pointed out.

On a sidenote, why 497 minutes? Seems like an odd number.

Don't expect me to reply here; I wouldn't want to be blocked for "last wordism" again. But I probably will be for "trouble making." Kayvan 19:23, 28 February 2010 (EST)

  • Noticing this post of yours, I think you are correct, Kayvan. Your mistake, in case you want to know, was belaboring the point and declaring your intent on your user page. Godspeed to you! --ṬK/Admin/Talk 20:16, 28 February 2010 (EST)

Corvidae

Hi there. The link at the bottom of the article provides the required evidence for the mirror test. I will reinsert it as a reference instead of further reading. Additionally, the study in question was on magpies I believe, which are still Corvids. God bless, Myrobi 12:58, 1 March 2010 (EST)

When sourcing a statement, use <ref> tags. Additionally, I gotta say, for me, this does more to raise doubts about the mirror test than convince me birds are self-aware. JacobB 13:01, 1 March 2010 (EST)
Me too. On the one hand, it is fairly illogical that such a small-brained creature could be self-aware. On the other hand, it would be a wonder and testament to God's greatness. Myrobi 13:14, 1 March 2010 (EST)

Very nice translation

Very nice translation in Luke 22! We're on track to complete "the most beautiful book ever written" by Easter.--Andy Schlafly 23:44, 1 March 2010 (EST)

Can we finish by Easter?

I did some estimates and figure that we have translated over half the New Testament. With Easter over a month away, I wonder if can complete by Easter.

MBack has been doing the Gospel of John and seems to contribute every 10 or so days. Translating John runs the risk of being overwritten by MBack. Perhaps we should carve up the other books between you, Douglas, Chris, me, and any others? I'll ask TerryH to return from the Old Testament in the spirit of finishing the New Testament by Easter.--Andy Schlafly 22:33, 3 March 2010 (EST)

That's a good idea. Just the Gospels is a huge accomplishment. What division do you suggest? JacobB 22:44, 3 March 2010 (EST)
It think every can just add wherever they like. Perhaps less structure will mean more productivity. Tomorrow I'll announce it on the front page (or you can, since you have privileges now to do so!). I'll rouse TerryH also to return to the New Testament.--Andy Schlafly 22:53, 3 March 2010 (EST)
This is an excellent sort of challenge. Leaving aside John for MBack (or we could contact him to prevent conflict), we should be able to translate an enormous amount, if not succeed at completion. Personally, less structure seems like a good idea, as we can learn from other people's approaches and possibly get a bit of overlapping insight on difficult sections, rather than working alone. Hypocrisy

On the "hypocrisy" thing, I wanted to let you know I wasn't talking saying Conservapedia was hypocritical, I was saying that we can't stoop down to Liberal hypocrisy. NP

Right, I get that. You were saying it would be hypocritical to condemn Rahm Emmanuel for using the same terms Rush Limbaugh uses. I was pointing out it wasn't because the White House and talk radio are very different venues. JacobB 22:47, 21 March 2010 (EDT)

Excellent delete on "Poe's Law"

It's nothing more than an internet meme for a small percentage of atheists. 99% of people would have no idea what it is. We don't need to afford it any legitimacy here. Jinx McHue 16:12, 24 March 2010 (EDT)

That was my feeling as well. JacobB 16:13, 24 March 2010 (EDT)

How to contact people?

Would there be a good page to let all the editors know that if there's a topic about the UK that they'd like adding, I'd be more than welcome to do it. I'll happily accept writing assignments. --Newton 21:36, 25 March 2010 (EDT)

More entries about British candidates who are contenders in the upcoming election, or more substance in existing entries about them, would be welcome! News from Britain is always interesting too, and can be suggested at Talk:Main Page. Thanks!--Andy Schlafly 21:40, 25 March 2010 (EDT)

Please don't delete my redirects

The plan was to eventually get the main article moved there, to the correct title and original capitalization, I would appreciate it if you could put the redirect back up. Thanks --Brendanw 22:04, 10 April 2010 (EDT)

I can't imagine anything less productive. You want to move the page to another with bizarre capitalization, just because that's how it appears on the cover? I have a few books in my house with "HOLY BIBLE" written on their covers, and yet our article on this book is not titled "The BIBLE." JacobB 22:07, 10 April 2010 (EDT)
Was the redirect hurting the project? --Brendanw 22:11, 10 April 2010 (EDT)

Category:Bands

I'm sorting through Category:Bands to figure out what few things are encyclopedic (The Beatles, for example). A lot appears to be trivial and non-encyclopedic, but what do you think of Christian Bands? Their articles are much more fit for conservapedia, but I wonder if they fall foul of being non-encyclopedic and pop-culture as well. DouglasA 00:23, 21 April 2010 (EDT)

My feelings is that similar notability standards apply. Just because a band is Christian, doesn't make it well-known or encyclopedic. JacobB 00:28, 21 April 2010 (EDT)
K. It'd probably be best to have a well stocked set of Christian Music articles, and possibly link to outside sources for people looking for Christian Music then, rather than a set of stubs. DouglasA 00:29, 21 April 2010 (EDT)

Great block/revert, also Linear Algebra

Great block and reverts, Jacob! By the way, I'm going to beef up our linear algebra as soon as the New Testament is complete, and we're less than 30 verses away from that extraordinary goal.--Andy Schlafly 02:34, 23 April 2010 (EDT)

Issue of complex eigenvalues and eigenvectors

How should we handle the issue of complex eigenvalues and eigenvectors? It's a niche in linear algebra, and perhaps a dubious one at that, but it is in textbooks now.--Andy Schlafly 19:26, 2 May 2010 (EDT)

My feeling is that we should "proceed formally," as they say. Over any field, we can define a vector space, including the complex field. By limiting our definitions of these concepts to real spaces, we do our readers a disservice. Of course, these are just my thoughts on the matter, and I would be interested to hear your thoughts. JacobB 22:27, 2 May 2010 (EDT)
I tried to find a way out of this dilemma: if the characteristic polynomial splits into linear factors (which is always the case for complex spaces, but may not happen for a real space), then the determinant can be calculated using the eigenvalues. But of course, the algebraic multiplicities have to be accounted for. FrankC aka ComedyFan 09:07, 5 May 2010 (EDT)

RealAmerican007

I'm totally aware that I'm overstepping my bounds here, but I really felt like I had to speak up. I'd just like to say first off that I don't really know anything about this user, nor am I able to guess his intentions. However, I saw that he was banned after making just two contributions and was accused of deleting citations and then asking for them. However, the two citations he deleted were either no longer in existence or mentioned nothing about the fact they were referenced for. As far as I could tell, his edits were nothing more than an attempt to make the site more encyclopedic. I'm just a bit worried that, out of haste, you may have unnecessarily blocked this user, which I have seen happen multiple times on sites like this is the past. RaymondP 14:15, 29 May 2010 (EDT)
