Red Sox

BOS Red Sox.png
This user is a Boston Red Sox fan.

Keep in mind that the image is copyrighted by Major League Baseball, and the Boston Red Sox, so it might not last, and you would have to be stuck using a letter which closely resembles it, as I did with the Tigers. We would have to investigate if sports emblems are authorized for use by fans in a free manner, and not for profit. Karajou 19:27, 23 April 2007 (EDT)

Bad news

Just to let you know, I wrote an official with the Detroit Tigers website about the fan use of baseball logos, and this was his reply:

"I'm sorry, but use of our marks or logos on the internet is prohibited. Major League Baseball Advanced Media has exclusive internet rights to MLB team marks and logos. The only exceptions are news gathering and reporting sites and only if the use of the logo is in conjunction with box scores or game summaries. (ESPN, Fox Sports, etc.)"

In mine and DavidR's case, we have a logo that looks almost alike, but not enough to violate the copyright; your's however, is the direct logo owned by the Red Sox, and legally it would have to go.

But, you can do a few things. You can do as we did, and find a current True-Type font that looks almost, but not quite, like the Red Sox logo; or you can take a photo of Fenway Park or a pair of red socks with a baseball, which would make it very obvious as to the team you love. Karajou 10:54, 26 April 2007 (EDT)

I love the idea of a "homemade" logo! And a zoo picture for the Tigers, right? Human 20:00, 5 May 2007 (EDT)

re:Jesus and Dead Sea Scrolls

I like the fact you want to work on Dead Sea Scrolls. I would suggest mentioning the Dead Sea Scrolls in the Bible article and then start composing your article. Do not forget to use one or more Category tags so people can find your article.

I appreciate the suggestion for the Jesus article but I don't agree with your suggestion. Conservative

How do you suggest he do that, adding a Dead Sea Scrolls section to the Bible, Conservative?

I'm sorry I may have misinterpreted Mr. Ashfly's comment here as a promotion, or at least an invitation. I guess he is just participating in the comments, and I confused his power here with the fact that he is also "just another editor" as well. Human 20:10, 9 May 2007 (EDT)

Peter and Saint Peter

These are two separate articles. Should they be merged? Otherwise, should one be chosen (I suggest your Saint Peter article) and put a redirect from the other to the chosen one? Regardless of which article is chosen or if they are merged, the title (Peter or Saint Peter) should be chosen to be consistent for example, with Paul (Saint Paul). Leopeo 07:54, 12 May 2007 (EDT)

When you create pages I think it would be better if you used a more explicit name than just Andrew or Philip. Either call them Saint or add "the apostle" suffix. Ian St John 11:48, 13 May 2007 (EDT)

Highlighting Links

Hi. I believe links are only supposed to be highlighted the first time they are come across in the article. So for instance I would highlight Jesus the first time he is mentioned, but I would just leave it as Jesus each time after that. Is this your understanding as well? Gallery

Hi, I have made a change to the format, as this will allow you to get a lot more images on to a single page, and also the page now will load faster for people who may not have fast internet connections, as well as being easier to view than scrolling through the equivalent of several pages. The syntax for adding more images to the gallery is very easy, and you will see straight away how it is done when you next add more. Hope this change is okay with you :) Fox 08:47, 27 May 2007 (EDT)

Fox, explain, please? --Sysop-TK /MyTalk 06:51, 28 May 2007 (EDT)
Hi TK. Originally, JM had placed the images unformatted on the page, resulting in a vertical row of images, each of different sizes, and some quite large. This would cause quite a long loading time for some people who don't have access to DSL etc., and also meant that on opening the article, you would only see the first two images or so on your screen. I used the <gallery>>/gallery> formatting to instead place the images as thumbnails, of roughly equal size, in ordered rows, allowing more to be placed on the "page" size, all to be seen at a glance, and loading times to be dramatically reduced. Aesthetically and technically, I felt it was an improvement, but Thought it best to tip hat here to JM so that he could see what I had done and check out for himself whether it was an improvement. See my talk page for his reply :) Fox 07:11, 28 May 2007 (EDT) Added: The article in question is Painting Masterpieces, if that is what you were wondering, and the diff is here Fox 07:20, 28 May 2007 (EDT)
That is useful for userspace, particularly if you create a lot of your own images or are a photographer, and also if you like to find and upload public domain images for everyone else to check out and use if they can. It wouldn't be useful in the single instance of Painting Masterpieces, due to its dynamic nature - the gallery would change every time you uploaded an image, so your masterpieces gallery could end up suddenly having a photograph of a, for arguments sake :), baboon picking its nose :D But it is still a very handy extension, for the reasons stated above Fox 13:41, 28 May 2007 (EDT)

Image Protection.....

All uploaded images MUST be protected immediately as you do them, please! Could you help me out here and protect all you have done? Protection is Sysop only for ALL images anyone uploads.  :-) --Sysop-TK /MyTalk 06:53, 28 May 2007 (EDT)

Upcoming Team Contest

Joaquin, you have been selected to be a captain of a team in an upcoming friendly competition. This great honor is due to your tremendous contributions on Conservapedia, as there will be only two captains. As captain, you will pick and manage a team of 7 other editors. A judge will then review the teams' contributions an announce the winner. We hope you accept for this fun and educational contest. ~ SharonTalk 20:50, 28 June 2007 (EDT)

That's great! I just created a page about the contest here. The next step is to "draft" a team from the users of the site. The two captains take turns asking users to be on their team. If the user declines, they can ask another user. Once someone agrees to join their team, they are added to that team's page here(team one) or here(team two). You are leading team one, and I will lead team two. You can take the first pick for a team member. Any user on the site is a possibility. Once you gain a team member, just add their name to your team's page. Then I will choose a user for my team, and the process will repeat until each team has seven members aside from the captain. Thanks much, ~ SharonTalk 06:36, 29 June 2007 (EDT)
Joaquin, just a tip: use your "draft" choices wisely. I'm sure Sharon will pick a superb team, and you want to make sure you pick the very best to be competitive! Don't expect to be competitive simply by picking random people. Sharon will be picking the very best persons available with your choices. Godspeed in your efforts, and may the best team win!--Aschlafly 14:14, 29 June 2007 (EDT)
Joaquin, the team contest rules will be posted soon but you can go ahead and make your first "draft pick" of your top choice to be on your team. Use your top pick wisely, because after you pick then your opponent will pick the best person available. Before picking you can review a summary of an editor's edits here. The way that you "draft" them is by posting an invitation to join your team on their user talk page. All editors are available to be "drafted", and if someone declines being "drafted" then you can simply pick the next best person available.--Aschlafly 00:12, 2 July 2007 (EDT)

I accept. Thanks Joaquín.Crocoite 09:25, 2 July 2007 (EDT)

Excellent! I have added you to the page for Joaquin's team here. Now I will add a user to my team, and then Joaquin can pick again. ~ SharonTalk 09:28, 2 July 2007 (EDT)

I've added Mr. Schlafly to my team. Now you can pick another of our best users to be on your team. ~ SharonTalk 09:47, 2 July 2007 (EDT)

I have asked two users to join my team. I'll let you know once they accept. After our teams each have the same number of members, you can choose again. Thanks, ~ SharonTalk 16:33, 2 July 2007 (EDT)

I now have four users on my team. It's your turn to pick again! ~ SharonTalk 09:40, 6 July 2007 (EDT)

re:help

Hello Joaquin, how are you? I don't know how to explain unblocking, but if you tell me the name of the user, I will try to do it for you. Bohdan 23:56, 28 June 2007 (EDT)

The trick to unblocking is to go to the list of blocked names and IP addresses in the Special Pages, and then unblock the IP address associated with the user first, and then unblock the user himself. Two unblocks are usually needed, and doing it in that order should be easier.--Aschlafly 00:04, 29 June 2007 (EDT)

Locks

Joaquin, I am trying to improve the categorisation and sort parameters for a lot of articles but have found that you have locked a lot of pages that you wrote. This makes it difficult for other editors to make contributions. Normally it is only contentious articles where there is liable to be vandalism that need to be locked. I don't see Antony van Dyck and Frans Hals as being candidates for vandalism. Do you think you could unlock them for other editors? BrianCo 19:08, 6 July 2007 (EDT)

JM the following are also locked and are not sorted properly:

Currently the artist entries are just categorized under Artists. I think that the movement/schools should be incorporated so that they can be grouped appropriately. However, I don't want to mess with categories too much without discussing it with a sysop as I have already offended TK by changing something. BrianCo 09:58, 7 July 2007 (EDT)

Ah, I see you already approved them. OK, we need to invite them all and whoever accepts will be our judges.--Aschlafly 00:56, 9 July 2007 (EDT)

Joaquin, one good type of resource that I want you to be aware of is this: United States government websites. Because we funded those websites as taxpayers, there is no copyright protection and we can almost always copy information from them without attribution or restriction. If the information is unbiased, as in scientific terms or information about countries or numerous other topics, then copying from those websites is fine. The same is not true for state websites (e.g., California or Florida), because they often do assert a copyright. Also, there may be prohibitions on copying certain US government images, such as the emblem for a division of government like the CIA.

Please ask if you have any questions. The judges should know if you prefer to ask them. Godspeed--Aschlafly 01:15, 9 July 2007 (EDT)

Federal government images are not bound by copyright restrictions. Karajou 01:21, 9 July 2007 (EDT)
Right, with a few very narrow exceptions concerning the seals or emblems of the government agencies themselves. The CIA, for example, prohibits anyone copying its seal or emblem.--Aschlafly 14:01, 9 July 2007 (EDT)

Joaquin, when using the welcome template, you don't need to include the user's name, as it defaults to the page name. Also, you can put your signature and date inside the box, by typing {{welcome|sig=~~~~}} Philip J. Rayment 22:34, 10 July 2007 (EDT)

Question About Humanism Article

I'm wondering why you removed the recent edit by Stlphotog in the Humanism article. It made a pretty good argument against humanism, and then for humanism. I thought it was rather intellectually stimulating.--Porthos 12:58, 12 July 2007 (EDT)

Team Contest/Baseball

You seem to be trying to manipulate the scoring system in order to score more points, by creating articles for things that should be subsections of the baseball article. Please merge/redirect them. --Tim (CPAdmin1)talk 18:29, 12 July 2007 (EDT)

That is for the judges to decide, not you. Please confirm your account has not been hacked... File:User Fox.png Fox (talk|contribs) 18:32, 12 July 2007 (EDT)

Baseball articles have been made according to Rules. They may stand in place till the end of the Contest. After that they can be deleted if they are not useful. After my point of view they are interesting, useful and nice. --User:Joaquín Martínez, talk 18:37, 12 July 2007 (EDT)

I think what i am saying is that the rules are bad and you are taking advantage of them. I told andy that his scoring system was bad but he didn't agree. The point of the contest was to get people to make usefull contributions to the site, not make contributions that do not help the site just so that they can run up their score. Oh, and I am the "real" cpAdmin1, my account has not been hacked. --Tim (CPAdmin1)talk 18:43, 12 July 2007 (EDT)

Your point of view if good for me. But if the rules are good or bad is a question that is not the moment to watch now. We are at the middle of the contest. As I told you, you may delete them once we are through. God bless you and please leave your comments for next week. At this moment we have to run fast to catch the Team 2 that has excellent player much better than us. --User:Joaquín Martínez, talk 18:51, 12 July 2007 (EDT)

Naval (ship) categorization

There are about 200 pages for US naval ships out there that currently uncategorized. Do you think you could start the categorization on them and suggest to the other contributors of these ships to categorize them - less work in the future for all involved. --Mtur 18:33, 13 July 2007 (EDT)

My apology for Sunday morning

Joaquin, please accept my apologies for an interruption Sunday morning, which I just realized now. I made a quick change to the programming before going to church, and I now realize that my coding error caused a problem that interrupted your editing. Unaware of the problem, I did another change right after church that restored service. Sorry for the interruption, but it was for a good cause! :-) --Aschlafly 10:34, 16 July 2007 (EDT)

Would you please categorize...

the article for photography? Since you're the protecting sysop I figured you'd want a crack at it. Perhaps "art" would be an appropriate category... Regards, Aziraphale 16:13, 17 July 2007 (EDT) <-also worth a thousand words...

If you looked at the top of this page, in the "useful links" box, you already have that link.  :-)
That link should be to all the templates, categorised and briefly explained. If you want a list of all templates (including user boxes), there's also this. Philip J. Rayment 20:15, 18 July 2007 (EDT)

Oxygen

I reverted your edits to incomplete combustion and complete combustion reaction. While O is the atomic symbol for oxygen, it rarely appears in the monotomic (one atom) form, as this is a highly reactive. In almost any reactions (including combustion reactions) oxygen appears in the diatomic form, O2. Jazzman831 14:37, 21 July 2007 (EDT)

Everything is fixed now with the rollback. The only difference between your version and my version is a "2". So that part is good :)
I'll try to explain my argument better. I think the confusion comes from the fact that in common usage "oxygen" could mean the element, O, or the molecule, O2. One word means two things, depending on the context. So when I say "A complete combustion reaction is a reaction in which oxygen is reacted with a hydrocarbon" the meaning is different if you say (O) or (O2). Am I making sense? In the link you sent me they were talking specifically about the element oxygen, so they referred to it as O. In this link they are talking about the molecule oxygen, and they refer to it as O2.
Is it more clear now?
In an unrelated matter, I think complete combustion reaction and incomplete combustion should be merged into Combustion Reactions, which already exists. I'm not really sure how to go about doing that. Jazzman831 23:15, 21 July 2007 (EDT)
  • you can copy over what you want to keep to one of them, then simply add a re-direct to the one you want to get rid of. We can do that, and blank the old page. --Sysop-TK /MyTalk 23:24, 21 July 2007 (EDT)

Bolívar's birth

Dear Joaquín Martínez,

You can write the note about Bolívar in this way:

“1783 Simón Bolívar; “The Liberator” of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Panamá, Peru, Bolivia and champion of the union of American countries; was born today.”

Thank you for your help,

Crop Circles

Joaquin, it's not at all clear what you mean by the second sentence in this article (especially the refs to Stonehenge and Hadrian's Wall). Could you perhaps have another look and make that part read more clearly? Thanks, Pachyderm 08:02, 26 July 2007 (EDT)

Hola amiga (I'm learning already! :)
I understand...it is very annoying when people edit your edits without talking about it and coming to an agreement. Maybe you can talk to Aschlafly...I know he's one of the "in charge" people. I'm sure he'll help you. So...adios! DeborahB. 16:49, 26 July 2007 (EDT)

Painting for next week

You should definitely do the painting "A Young Girl Reading" for next week...it's amazing! And to make sure...the sentence you left me in spanish means "a last gift for the next Sunday," correct? (online translations are not good at translating it so it makes sense in English! They only ever get the words right, not the order that they're supposed to be written in!) Adios.
