Changing your user name

Hello KommissarReb, I know it's been a while since you've lasted edited here, but I've been doing some reading and found that bureaucrats have the power to change your username. I recommend asking User:Aschlafly or User:Karajou, and they will be able to change your name. I hope to see you around here! --1990'sguy (talk) 22:56, 21 May 2017 (EDT)

Thanks for the tip! Community college and work kept me busy, though I also forgot after a while. I'll make sure to ask them. --KommissarReb (talk) 9:20, 5 July 2017 (EDT)
I saw your post on Karajou's talk page. I apologize, I thought he was a bureaucrat when he actually is not. Andy, however, can do it (another user recently convinced him to change his user name as well). --1990'sguy (talk) 12:21, 5 July 2017 (EDT)

Galactic Empire

Hi.

I see you're a supporter of the Galactic Empire from Star Wars (at least, I assume that's what the GE template was referring to). I've recently started supporting the Empire even though I generally don't support villains as a rule (let's just say that Lucas' statements, backed by development notes dating back to 1973 among other things, that the Empire was America and the Rebels were the Vietcong, communists in other words, was what resulted in my deciding to root for the Empire despite initially being a Rebel supporter due to thinking they were American Minutemen).

Anyways, have any plans on editing the various Star Wars articles? Pokeria1 (talk) 08:59, 9 September 2017 (EDT)

Don't overthink it; I threw that in for comedic effect. I usually don't edit or create articles here unless I see room for improvement that won't get reverted when I get around to it. In any case I always felt the Galactic Empire felt more like the Soviet Union mixed with Nazi Germany while the Alliance to Restore the Republic was more like the U.S. I admit I was a long time fan of Starwars stuff before facepalming at all the stupid stuff (like how elite soldiers lose because main characters have plot armor). When I was a kid I only cared for colorful laserbolts and lightsabers and largely ignored the actual story.KommissarReb (talk) 22:49, 10 September 2017 (EDT)
I used to think that as well, regarding the Rebels anyways, probably also the Empire being Nazis too. Unfortunately... Lucas deciding to open his big fat mouth pretty much changed all of that. The start of that mess occurred when Bill Whittle made that afterburner episode Han Shot First when Whittle first mentioned the Vietcong's ties to the heroes' conception (though there he was technically referring to the Ewoks more than the Rebels themselves, it nonetheless tarnished the Rebels somewhat since it implies they probably weren't based on America after all.) and how America was meant to be the Empire ("Lucas has since said, by the way, that the Ewoks, the little native good guys, represent his mind the Vietcong, while the evil Empire, the one we spent our own childhood rooting against was in fact America! You feeling better now? You're welcome."), and what made that very blatant was Chris Taylor's book retrospective on Star Wars. I don't even root for villains generally, and in fact I make it a rule to never root for the villains even if the heroes aren't my cup of tea either (and in the latter case, I generally don't root for either group), so the fact that I actually am forced to make an exception in this case just shows how badly I took the revelation. Besides, going by a fairly recent Charlie Rose interview where George Lucas literally said he preferred Soviet filmmaking over American filmmaking, you know, the same type that would result in you being executed on a mere whim by the Soviet leader if he deems anything even remotely bad about it, I'd say he probably has little problem with the USSR. On a related note, I also intensely dislike comparisons between the American Minutemen and the Vietcong, as well. Pokeria1 (talk) 05:56, 11 September 2017 (EDT)
Ever since Disney and J.J Abrams have been (in my opinion) ruining Star Wars more than it already was, I lost interest in most Star Wars stuff except for the Expanded Universe/Legends material. Granted there was a lot of Legends stories that were awful, but I really liked the Imperial Civil War that followed Episode VI and found the Before the Republic era mysterious and fascinating. The Imperial Civil War was really interesting era and Abrams could have used it as a setting for an original Star Wars movie, but instead decided to make a half-baked 2015 version of Episode IV. And that's me being generous. KommissarReb (talk) 16:19, 11 September 2017 (EDT)
