Vegemite is a popular Australian spread, usually served in sandwiches or on toast or crackers. It was first created in 1922. It is an almost-black concentrated yeast extract with a strong taste that many people unused to it dislike intensely.

A phrase from a Vegemite advertising jingle—a happy little Vegemite—became Australian slang for a happy and contented person.[1]
