A vice president is an officer ranking directly below a president. The vice president of a country, such as the Vice President of the United States of America, is typically empowered to assume the President's duties in situations such as absence, illness, or death. A corporation can have vice presidents of various departments or for various geographical regions, e.g., Vice President of Sales or Vice President for the Eastern Region.
