Walter Mondale (1928 - present) was the Senator from Minnesota from 1966 to 1976, and served as Vice-President under Jimmy Carter from 1977 to 1981.[1] He was the Democratic Party nominee for President in 1984, and in losing an overwhelming defeat to Ronald Reagan, he only managed to carry his home state and the District of Columbia.
In 2002 Mondale ran for the Senate again, replacing Senator Paul Wellstone on the ballot when he died in a plane crash 11 days before the election. Mondale lost to Republican Norm Coleman.
