After lengthy fighting among seven states in China 480 BC-221 BC, Ch'in won control of China.

This period is remembered not only for the violent political struggles, but also for the philosophical schools which flourished and competed during this time. In fact, it was during this era when Confucius said: "Let a hundred flowers bloom; let a hundred schools of thought contend." In addition to Confucianism itself, the important philosophical schools of this period included Legalism, Moism (named after the philosopher, Mozi), Nihilism, and various varieties of Daoism.
