Winsome Earle Sears (born in 1964) is a Jamaican-born American Republican politician and businesswoman serving as the 42nd lieutenant governor of Virginia for governor Glenn Youngkin. She is the first black woman, first female veteran, and the first legal immigrant to serve in this position.[1]
Sears earned an AA from Tidewater Community College, a BA in from Old Dominion University and an MA from Regent University. She also has served in the United States Marines. She built a successful business as a trained electrician and served as director of a women’s homeless shelter for The Salvation Army.
She previously served as Vice President of the Virginia State Board of Education and received presidential appointments to the US Census Bureau where she co-chaired the African American Committee and the Advisory Committee on Women Veterans to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
