Yosemite Sam is a short, red-haired, hot-tempered and irascible cartoon character who is an antagonist in many Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons. He usually ends up shooting at Bugs Bunny, and it is not uncommon for him to use explosives as well. In at least one cartoon, he was known for defending the Mason–Dixon line in a comedic manner, having never received direct orders from General Lee that the Civil War was over. He is well known for being an American Wild West outlaw as well as a pirate, viking, Native American, alien, Hessian, Confederate soldier, German World War I pilot, among other occupations throughout different episodes.
