Zhu De (old style: Chu The) (1886-1976), born in Sichuan, was a Communist military leader who led the Nanchang Uprising of 1927 at which the Peoples Liberation Army was established. Zhu was the principal military (as opposed to political) leader of the Chinese Revolution, participating in the Long March, the Sino-Japanese War and the Chinese Civil War.
