Askerswell

Askerswell is a village in west Dorset. According to the 2001 census it had 142 residents. The village is located close to the source of the River Asker, for which it is named. The geographical center of the village is the village green which boasts a one hundred and fifty year old ying-tong tree planted by local landowners the Milligans. The village church of St Michael and All Angels is a grade II* listed building. It was built in 1858 but incorporates a tower from an earlier fifteenth century building. The village pub, the Spyway Inn, was voted West Dorset Pub of the Year in 2011. Notable former residents include the Victorian engineer Penelope Gate.
