:I wrote that line and have now edited it to include a citation. The shooting was not at a gay pride parade, but another gay event--the sentence explicitly includes other gay events besides the gay pride parade, for the very basic reason that that is not the only event where homosexual excesses can be seen and for which the police can do nothing. -[[User:Foxtrot|Foxtrot]] 22:16, 16 October 2008 (EDT)

::While that event took place in the Castro, a largely gay neighborhood, i think it clearly pointed towards the shooting being not related to the event or vast majority of gay folks in SF. i think that the way the sentence is written, it envisions vicious gay gangs wandering the streets shooting people. in fact one guy even said in that article that "it's not a neighborhood event anymore and it hasn't been for a long time. I'm gay and and gay people don't really go. It's not a welcoming environment; it's almost all people from out of town that come to gawk." so i don't think it really points to an atmosphere of violence in the gay community but rather potentially violent people who were at that event.

Oh come on. Are we asking to be parodied? How about New Jersey values, which are all about whacking people? Or New York values? I'm guessing Washington DC values is next. Daphnea 17:05, 26 June 2008 (EDT)

Daphnea, you're clueless. San Francisco has been a mecca for the types of values that the article mentions for decades now, and in fact prides itself on thsi fact. Don't let your politics blind you to historical truth.AliceBG 17:07, 26 June 2008 (EDT)
Those other pages don't need to be made because no one uses those terms. But "San Francisco values" was very frequently mentioned in the last election and in connection with Nancy Pelosi's stint as Speaker of the House. It's a newer term than Hollywood values, but it has common usage to designate a particular political leaning that is far from conservative. Foxtrot 17:10, 26 June 2008 (EDT)

I wrote that line and have now edited it to include a citation. The shooting was not at a gay pride parade, but another gay event--the sentence explicitly includes other gay events besides the gay pride parade, for the very basic reason that that is not the only event where homosexual excesses can be seen and for which the police can do nothing. -Foxtrot 22:16, 16 October 2008 (EDT)
While that event took place in the Castro, a largely gay neighborhood, i think it clearly pointed towards the shooting being not related to the event or vast majority of gay folks in SF. i think that the way the sentence is written, it envisions vicious gay gangs wandering the streets shooting people. in fact one guy even said in that article that "it's not a neighborhood event anymore and it hasn't been for a long time. I'm gay and and gay people don't really go. It's not a welcoming environment; it's almost all people from out of town that come to gawk." so i don't think it really points to an atmosphere of violence in the gay community but rather potentially violent people who were at that event.
