Jack Reed, born November 12, 1949 (age 76), a is Democrat United States Senator from Rhode Island. He was elected in 1996, and has served in the Senate since then. Previously, Reed was a three term member of U.S. House of Representatives and represented Rhode Island's 2nd Congressional District. In the Senate, Reed is a member of the powerful Appropriations Committee, which controls congressional funding initiatives, and also a senior member of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee.[1]
