Phrixus and Helle were the son and daughter of Athamas and Nephele. They were rescued from their step-mother, Ino's, plot to kill them by a winged, golden ram, sent by their mother.

During the flight, Helle fell into the sea and it was later named Hellespont after her. Phrixus arrived in Clochis, whereupon he sacrificed the ram and presented the Golden Fleece to King Aeëtes, whose daughter, Chalciope, he later married. [1][2]
