Captain's Protest

A Captain's Protest is a document prepared by the captain of a vessel on arriving at port, which details conditions encountered during the voyage, generally for the purpose of relieving the ship owner of any loss to cargo and shifting responsibility for reimbursement to the insurance company.[1]
