Henry Cavendish (1731-1810) was an English chemist and physicist who was the first to discover hydrogen gas. He also was the first to measure accurately the density of the Earth, and to explain the composition of water. He also measured the electrical conductivities of electrolyte solutions. A very shy person, Cavendish rarely published articles about his own discoveries.
