Talk pollution is non-substantive, meaningless talk which has an effect of distracting others from the substantive issues. It is often intended to obscure or deflect those issues. It may include last wordism. It is often rude or insulting. On Wikipedia, there is pervasive talk pollution.
The 90/10 rule is a simple, effective means of combating talk pollution.
Ironically, some perpetrators of talk pollution are environmentalists.
