Australia has six states and three two internal territories. The states are:
* [[New South Wales]]
* [[Victoria]]
* The [[Northern Territory]] (responsible government since 1978)
* [[Australian Capital Territory]] (responsible government since 1988) which is the location of Australia's capital city, [[Canberra]].
* [[Jervis Bay Territory]] (small, not much there, generally forgotten about)
The external territories are:
* [[Christmas Island]]
