Dmitri Kabalevsky (1904-1987) was a Russian composer and pianist. He was a silent cinema pianist in the early 1920s [1] before he went on to study at the Moscow Conservatory. In 1940, he joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and wrote patriotic songs during World War II. He ended up being renowned as one of the most famous composers of children's music.
