In the U.S., an episode of Doctor Who was being broadcast during what has become known as the "Max Headroom Incident". On November 22, 1987, during a broadcast of the Fourth Doctor episode ''Horror of Fang Rock'', being broadcast on the Chicago PBS affiliate WTTW, an unknown individual suddenly appeared wearing a Max Headroom mask. Another intrusion had happened a few hours prior on WGN. As of 2015, the The party responsible for the signal intrusion has never been identified.
