The term homosexual act can be applied to any romantic or erotic interaction between persons of the same sex.

Attitudes towards such acts vary, subjectively, from culture to culture, and from individual to individual. Some sources claim that references to, and records of, sexual relations between persons of the same sex exist for almost every human civilization throughout history. This point may be used to illustrate the acceptability of homosexuality.

Such acts are forbidden by religious texts such as the Bible and the Qur'an and strict followers of these writings often cite them in objection to sexual interaction between gays; Stating that, a subjective cultural imprimatur of acceptability does not save the objective immorality of the act.
