The Albin Countergambit is a response in chess to the Queen's Gambit as follows:

1. d4 d5
2. c4 e5

typically followed:

3. dxe5 d4

The result is that Black gains a positional advantage by taking control with a pawn at d4. White may then sacrifice a pawn of its own in order to regain parity in position.
