Hanja

Hanja are Chinese characters that are used to write Korean. They are the same as traditional Chinese characters. Today, hangul is mostly used, but hanja is still used in South Korea and overseas Korean communities to clarify a word's meaning in Korean. Hanja is not used at all in North Korea.
