Show History
In The Beginning
The show was conceived when Opie, then a part-time DJ at a local New York station became friends with Anthony, a frequent caller to the show. Anthony soon joined Opie and their radio story began.
Surviving Taxachusetts
The two soon got a job in Worchester, Massachusetts, at the radio station WAAF. There the two began the Afternoon Drive slot and would play certain bits such as their infamous "100 Grand" piece. Their gig was going along nicely until the two decided to say the Democratic mayor of Boston, Thomas Menino, was dead when he was really on vacation. The two were promptly fired.
Hittin' it Big
The two were then given a job at the New York station WNEW to take over the Afternoon Drive slot. The two soon became nationally syndicated and took on talent such as comedian Jim Norton as a host.
