Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a medical disorder related to blood circulation. POTS causes those who suffer from it to feel faint and dizzy. The disorder causes suffers’ heart rate to increase by over twenty beats per minute when performing a change in posture, such as from lying down to standing up. This also results in exercise intolerance.

POTS is currently not well understood by many medical practitioners, and treatment for POTS can range from adding salt to the diet and taking prescription drugs such as the beta blocker propranolol.
