Yes, it is a violent game. However, it is set in Ancient China where "You", the player, a hero, is fighting a mass of enemies, using ancient weapons. There is not a firearm in sight. "Dad," my 25 year old said, "it is no more dangerous than you playing cowboys and indians or cops and robbers when you were a kid."
