Vine and Branches

The Vine and Branches is a powerful metaphor by Jesus as described in the Gospel of John at John 15:1-17 , including this wisdom by Jesus:

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.[1]

Sometimes this is also referred to as an allegory, which is akin to an extended metaphor as a story itself.
