He entered the NFL in 2001 when he was signed by the [[New York Giants]] as an undrafted rookie free agent on April 27, 2001. Rivers played at tight end with the Giants until the 2005 season when he signed with the [[Houston Texans]]. In 2006, he was one the [[Oakland Raiders]] for a short time before the regular season began and then briefly was with the [[New Orleans Saints]] and played in one game with them.
