A '''media event''' is an event that is purposely arranged in order to give the [[press]] an opportunity to see an elected official at work or to hear an official speak. It allows the [[politician]] some good press coverage and the ability to convey a message. An unarranged media event of the same sort, usually based around a scandal of some sort, is called a media circus.
