Songhai

Songhai is the name for a people, language, kingdom, and empire in western Soudan in West Africa. At the height of the Muslim Empire's power in the sixteenth century, it stretched from the Atlantic Ocean to the land of the Hausa and was a major player in trans-Saharan trade.
