Interceptors are military aircraft designed to take off, rapidly meet incoming enemy aircraft and destroy them. Traditionally they sacrificed maneuverability for speed and climbing performance. A classic example of this was the F-104 Starfighter, which was termed the "missile with a man in it" because it looked and performed more like a missile than a traditional aircraft.
