2026 Old Dominion University shooting
The 2026 Old Dominion University shooting terror atrack occurred on March 12, 2026, at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, when 36-year-old Islamist Mohamed Bailor Jalloh opened fire on members of the universityâs Reserve Officersâ Training Corps (ROTC). Authorities say Jalloh shouted the Arabic Islamic cry: âAllahu Akbarâ[1] before beginning the attack inside a classroom.
The jihadist targeted an ROTC class and shot Lt. Col. Brandon Shah,[2] an Army veteran and instructor, several times, killing him. Two additional ROTC members were critically injured.
Students in the classroom fought back and subdued the attacker before police arrived. According to investigators, Jalloh died during the confrontation after being stabbed by a defending cadet.
Federal authorities, including the FBI, are investigating the attack as an act of terrorism. Jalloh had previously been convicted in 2017 for attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State (ISIS) and had been released from federal custody in 2024.[3][4]
Officials and military leaders praised the actions of the ROTC students who intervened, saying their quick response likely prevented further casualties. The university canceled classes following the attack while law enforcement continued the investigation.
