Annise Parker (born May 17, 1956) was the Democrat mayor of Houston, Texas from 2009 until she stepped down in 2015 due to term limits passed by Houston city council (which, at the time, limited mayors, city controllers and councillors to three two-year terms). She is a lesbian, being the first openly homosexual mayor of a large (more than 600,000 pop.) American city.[1]
