The Boland Amendment was an amendment to the Defense Appropriation Act of 1983, proposed by Edward Boland, a Democrat from Massachusetts. This amendment prohibited the US government from providing funds to the Contras to overthrow the Sandinista government of Nicaragua.
The discovery that the Contras were armed by the proceeds of weapons sales to Iran by Israel triggered the Iran-Contra Affair.
