Cardiganshire

Cardiganshire (Welsh: Ceredigion or Sir Aberteifi) is a maritime traditional county in western Wales, which is bound in Cardigan Bay, an inlet of the Irish Sea, in the west. Aside from the narrow coastal plain, the county is dominated by rugged mountains. The traditional county town is Cardigan whilst the largest settlement is Aberystwyth.

The highest point in Cardiganshire is Pen Pumlumon Fawr which, standing 2,467 ft above sea-level, forms part of the Plynlimon (or Pumlumon) massif of the Cambrian Mountains and is where the River Severn (Welsh: Afon Hafren) has its source.

Administration

Cardiganshire is co-terminus with the administrative county of Ceredigion County Council.
