An EA-18G Growler takes off.

The EA-18G Growler is the United States Navys replacement aircraft for the EA-6B Prowler; it is a modified version of the F-18 Hornet. The first was rolled out in 2007.

Development

In 2000, the Navy decided to begin work on a replacement for the EA-6B Prowler. The F-18 airframe (already in use as the Navy's primary aircraft) was selected for the purpose. The aircraft will go into service in 2010, the same year EA-6s will begin to be retired.
