Freedom of Information Act
(Redirected from Freedom-of-information)
The Freedom of Information Act, or FOIA (5 U.S.C. 552, as amended), enables citizens to request certain information held by the Executive Branch of the federal government. FOIA does not permit access to records of the Congress and legislative branch agencies or the judicial branch, or to donated historical materials (including the Nixon Presidential Historical Materials).
Access to executive branch information is not allowed if it falls within one of FOIA's nine statutory exemptions.
