The song tells of martyrs who, long ago, gave their lives instead of renouncing Christianity, and that the time has come once again for Christians to take a stand. The lyrics are framed by a conversation between a father and son, talking about the martyrs of old, then how it became illegal to pray or read the Bible in schools, and at the end the father asks him to take care of his mother, and that he hopes he never has to make that choice (implying that the father will be killed for his faith; this is portrayed in a video from that time which is available on YouTube).

The song won a Dove Award for Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year in 1994.
