James Talarico
James Talarico is a Texas State Senator and a leading candidate to become the Democrat nominee for the U.S. Senate election in 2026, which is currently held by Republican John Cornyn.
Talarico's opponents in the Democrat primary, which will be held on March 3, 2026, are Jasmine Crockett (known for her "fake ghetto" persona; she grew up attending elite schools in St. Louis) and Ahmad Hassan (who is generally considered an "also-ran" candidate). Talarico is considered the front-runner in the Democrat primary, polling nine points over Crockett. Were he to win the primary, he polls roughly even with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton but behind Congressman Wesley Hunt and even worse against Cornyn.
Talarico is a former Presbyterian seminarian who is the grandson of a Baptist minister. Talarico often refers to the Bible to try to justify his Leftist political positions. But Talarico favors expanding gambling in Texas, particularly casinos.
| “ | Talarico’s positions are discordant with many other Christians, progressive or conservative. ... Talarico has received tens of thousands of dollars from a political action committee (PAC) backed by GOP megadonor Miriam Adelson. Although Adelson is perhaps best known for her Israel advocacy, her and her late husband’s wealth is tied up in casinos.[1] | ” |
