The Jussie Smollett assault hoax refers to the event that actor Jussie Smollett orchestrated in order to frame Trump supporters of a racially-motivated attack. Two brothers that had previously worked with Smollett as extras on Empire testified Smollett paid them $3,500 to pose as his attackers.[1] Smollett was found guilty of five out of six counts by a court of justice and was sentenced to 150 days in prison, as well as 30 months of probation, a $25,000 fine and was ordered to pay $120,106 in restitution.[2]

During the trial, it was discovered that Smollett even practiced a "dry run" prior. [3]
