The Bibas family kidnapping for the Gaza Strip (before murdering them) took place on October 7, 2023, during the Hamas led Arab "Palestinian" massacre in Nir Oz. "Palestinian" terrorists from the Islamist Mujahideen Brigades[1] movement, probably along with terrorists identified as part of a small terrorist group known as "Mr. Desert" (which until October 7 was less recognized for security forces in Israel)-kidnapped their mother (32 years old) with the kidnapping) with the kidnapping) with) Her little children Ariel (4 years old on the kidnapping day) and Kfir (9 months old on the kidnapping day) to the Gaza Strip. Kfir was the youngest kidnapped hijacked by Hamas. Father Yarden was kidnapped separately by Hamas area of Kibbutz Nir Oz. On the day of the massacre, Shiri's parents Yossi and Margite Silverman were also murdered.

The kidnapping
On October 21, 2023, two weeks after the massacre and kidnappings, the bodies of Shiri's parents were found.
Efforts to free Shiri and her children during the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas were unsuccessful. In late November 2023, Hamas claimed that they had been killed. The news was met with skepticism, and it was claimed that it was "psychological terrorism." A day later, Hamas released a video showing the family's father, Yardem, who was also kidnapped, receiving the bitter news. The IDF pledged to investigate Hamas' claim. On February 19, 2024, the IDF showed the relatives of the Bibas family a video apparently filmed in the southern Gaza Strip, documenting Shiri and the children several days after the kidnapping.
According to Hamas's list of abductees after the release of the abductees in 2025, there are no female captives alive. On February 1, 2025, Yarden Bibas was released and arrived in Israel. Senior Hamas Khalil al-Hayya announced that the terror organization plans to hand over the bodies of the Bibas family's children on February 20, 2025. On February 20, Hamas returned four bodies that it claimed were Shiri, Ariel, Kfir, and Oded Lifshitz. However, it later emerged that Hanas lied again and only the bodies of Ariel, Kfir, and Oded Lifshitz had been identified, but the fourth body was not Shiri's or another hostage.
According to Reports from the day of the kidnapping, the father of the family, Yarden Bibas, sent a message to his sister to update her on the fighting in and around Kibbutz Nir Oz. At around 06:30 he sent her an update about rocket fire, and then told her about terrorists who had entered the kibbutz. At around 09:43 he sent the message "They are inside", and shortly afterwards he sent his family: "I love you".
Many documents of the family have been distributed online, the most famous of which is a video of the terrified Shiri, holding her two children wrapped in a blanket in her arms, while she is surrounded by gunmen. Later, photos of Yarden were distributed on the day of the attack, bleeding from the head and being pushed by terrorists. On April 17, 2024, a video was released showing Yarden Bibas during the kidnapping to Gaza, his face covered in blood, and the terrorists abusing him.
Shiri's father, Yossi Silverman, and his wife, Margit Schneider Silverman, were murdered in an attack on the kibbutz, and their home was burned to the ground. Their bodies were found and officially identified on October 21, 2023.
Efforts to release them
Shiri and her children were expected to be released under the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas that began on November 24, 2023. Israel saw their failure to release as a violation of the agreement. On November 29, 2023, Hamas' military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, issued a statement stating that Shiri and her two children had been killed in Israeli airstrikes. Israel announced that there was no evidence of this. The next day, a video was released showing Yarden Bibas alive.
An IDF spokesman said regarding the family's whereabouts that the IDF believed the children and their mother were in the hands of the Palestinian Al-Mujahideen Movement (Arabic: حركة المجاحدين الفلستعالية). According to Foreign Minister Eli Cohen and the Jerusalem Post, in early December 2023, all of Israel's embassies and consulates lit their buildings orange or displayed pictures of the family. The Foreign Minister emphasized that the display, which coincided with the lighting of the first candle of Hanukkah, was an act of solidarity designed to raise awareness of Hamas' atrocities and mobilize global public opinion to call for the release of the abductees.

A cousin of the Biebs family raised a request to speak to US President Joe Biden, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, to petition them to help free the family. He also mentioned that they are working with the Argentine government to help petition for the family's release. Rallies calling for the release of the Biebs family members were held in several locations in Israel and abroad, including regular demonstrations in front of the home of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. A local member of parliament also participated in the demonstration in Vancouver, and many of them wore the color orange. During the months since they were kidnapped in the Gaza Strip, while being held captive by the Hamas terrorist organization, their family and friends celebrated their birthdays on various occasions and in mass public events. On January 18, 2024, the first birthday of baby Kfir Biebs was celebrated at an event called "The Saddest Birthday in the World." The event, which took place in Kidnapped Square in Tel Aviv, hosted by Gili Werner ("Gili is Coming to Visit"), was attended, alongside representatives of the Biebs family, by artists and child stars: Tal Musseri, Uncle Haim, Michal The Little One, Meni Mamtare and Ohad Chitman.

In June 2024, Benny Gantz said in an interview with presenter Michal Rabinowitz on Kan 11 that he thought Israel knew the situation of the Bibs family, and would reveal it when the conditions were ripe for it. On August 5, 2024, Ariel Bibs' fifth birthday was celebrated. The event, which took place at the Kidnapped Square in Tel Aviv, hosted by Israel Katorza, was attended by representatives of the Bibs family, as well as the artists Ran Danker, David D'Or and Roni Dalumi.
As part of the public call in Israel and around the world for the return of the Bibs family from Hamas captivity, the color orange became its symbol, due to the fact that her two sons, Ariel and Kfir, have bright red hair.
Partial release with macabre show
On February 1, 2025, approximately 484 days after his abduction, the father of the family, Yarden Bibas, was released from captivity in the Gaza Strip and arrived in Israel as part of the second hostage release deal.
After the release, it was learned that Yarden was imprisoned in isolation in a separate cell in a tunnel, a kind of cage, and was prevented from contact with other hostages. This was except for a meal that was allowed once a day, almost every day.
On February 20, 2025, as part of the hostage release deal, Hamas reported that it had transferred the bodies of Shiri, Ariel, and Kfir to Israel, and that the body of the 83-year-old hostage, Oded Lipshitz, had also been brought.

Hamas stages macabre ceremony to release bodies of four Israeli hostages, said to include Bibas children and their mother. 'The sick jihadi psychopaths have placed four caskets on full display for a crowd of cheering Palestinians.'
As Israel waited with broken hearts for the four martyred to return to Israel, Hamas prepared a depraved ceremony in Khan Younis. The barbaric handover ceremony began at about 9:20 a.m. to the sounds of the cheering, clapping and whistling of the delighted audience. The coffins were handed over to the Red Cross, who transported them to a meeting point in the Strip where IDF forces were waiting.
Shortly after 10 p.m., the coffins were handed over to the IDF. The coffins were locked and were handed over with keys that didn’t fit the locks. IDF sappers thoroughly inspected the coffins to ensure they weren’t rigged with explosives and then forced the locks open.
A decision was made to shorten the ceremony. IDF Chief Rabbi Brig. Gen. Eyal Karim recited an appropriate kappitel Tehillim – 83 – over the coffins while IDF soldiers saluted. The coffins were then placed in IDF vehicles, which transported them across the border to Israel and continued to the Abu Kabir Institute of Forensic Medicine in Tel Aviv.
Earlier, the terror group built a stage featuring a banner depicting Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu as a vampire delighting over the “murder” [Hamas-libelous blamed him for their killing] of the hostages, with images of Shiri, Ariel and Kfir Bibas and Oded Lifshitz.

Another banner glorifying the October 7 massacre and depicting multiple “Zionist” coffins, states: “The return of the war = the return of your prisoners in coffins.” The coffins were placed on the stage. Written on them [the coffins of babies!] were the words: “Date of arrest: October 7, 2023.”
Unfathomable depravity. The coffins of babies, a young mother, and an elderly man surrounded by missiles and armed and masked terrorists. This is what they revel in and proudly display to the world, a world that at best fails to condemn such images and at worst, gloats over them.

Hundreds of terrorists and “innocent” Gazan civilians gathered to watch the barbaric ceremony, delighted to start their day gloating over a Jewish mother, babies, and an elderly man brutally abducted from their homes and murdered in captivity.
Terrorists released from Israeli prisons in previous hostage release waves, were among the audience.
Hamas set up a table with weapons for children to experiment with. Seen in the photo is a terrorist wearing an IDF uniform stolen on October 7. Many Israeli social media users have commented on the “carnival” atmosphere at the depraved ceremony, with women, young children and babies in the audience.

On February 21, 2025, the Institute of Forensic Medicine verified the bodies of Kfir and Ariel, but the other body was not identified as that of the mother, Shiri.
The IDF stated, based on intelligence and the evidence received, that Ariel and Kfir Bibas were murdered by Hamas terrorists, and not because of an IDF attack as Hamas attempted to claim. It is estimated that Ariel and Kfir were murdered towards the end of November 2023 or early December 2023.
Furthermore, based on the autopsy of Oded Lifshitz's body, it is claimed that he was also murdered in captivity in November 2023, when he was 83 years old.

In a revelation that should shock the conscience of humanity, Israeli authorities have confirmed that Kfir and Ariel Bibas—just 10 months and 4 years old—were choked to death with the bare hands of Hamas terrorists.
IDF Spokesperson Daniel Hagari made the grim announcement: “Kfir and Ariel Bibas were brutally murdered by the terrorists. They murdered them with their bare hands. We collected forensic findings and intelligence information.”
“Contrary to Hamas’ lies, they were not killed in an airstrike. Kfir the infant and Ariel the four-year-old were murdered in cold blood. The terrorists did not murder them by shooting them, they murdered them with their hands. Afterwards, they committed terrible acts in order to try to cover up the atrocities,” he says.
The truth, long obscured by Hamas’s lies and disinformation, was finally revealed with confirmation from Yarden Bibas, the boys’ father, who insisted that the world must know his children were slaughtered by human animals.
For months, Hamas toyed with the hopes of the Bibas family, refusing to disclose any details about the fate of Kfir, Ariel, and their mother, Shiri Bibas, who were abducted during the October 7th massacre. Instead, the terror group deliberately spread falsehoods—first claiming the family was alive, then blaming Israeli airstrikes for their deaths. Now, the reality has emerged, and it is beyond horrifying: Hamas terrorists executed defenseless children with their bare hands.
