Lawfare against Donald Trump
- See also: show trial.
Lawfare against Donald Trump includes nearly a half-dozen criminal prosecutions and a similar total of civil actions. All of these actions have been funded or pursued by opponents of Donald Trump, and many of them have attempted to expedite trials so that they occur prior to the 2024 presidential election, for maximum impact as show trials.
Draining Time and Funds from Reelection Efforts
One motivation by liberals -- in addition to the potential political fallout of show trials -- is to drain time and resources away from Donald Trump's reelection efforts. For example, by early 2024 it was estimated that more than $100 million was spent out of necessity in order to defend against the lawfare pursued by Leftist prosecutors, law firms, and donors against Trump. As explained by a liberal website:
| “ | Since leaving office, former president Trump has been involved in an array of criminal and civil litigation — some that relates to his campaigns and presidency and some that does not. To cover the enormous legal bills, estimated at more than $100 million, he has turned to his political action committees (PACs), essentially having campaign donors pay costs for which he would otherwise be on the hook personally.[1] | ” |
