To be Mentioned in Despatches is a minor British military award for gallantry or meritorious service. It is of a lower level than a gallantry medal, but a decoration, originally a spray of oak leaves in bronze and since 1920 a single oak leaf in silver, is awarded. If a campaign medal was issued for the campaign during which the Mention occurred the decoration is worn on the ribbon of that medal; otherwise it is worn on the left breast of the uniform.
