Rafael Bienvenido Cruz is a pastor, the father of Ted Cruz, and is himself a darling of the Tea Party Movement.[1][2]
Early life
Rafael Cruz grew up in Cuba under Fulgencio Batista,[3] whom at the time he believed was an oppressive ruler. He sided with the communist Fidel Castro at first, but shortly after, he rejected all forms of tyranny he fled to America to seek true Liberty.
After Cuba
He came to America with only $100 to his name,[1] where he learned English over time while washing dishes and attending University of Texas, Austin.
In 1969, he married Eleanor Elizabeth Darragh Wilson, who would be Ted Cruz's mother.[4]
He is currently a Pastor in Lewisville, Texas, heading a ministry called Grace for America.[5][6]
