"The Ballad of the Green Berets" was written by U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Barry Sadler, a member of the U.S. Army's Special Forces Unit. It was Sadler's intent to articulate the pro-war position of the Vietnam War and it became the most popular song of 1966. Sadler wrote the lyrics while Robin Moore wrote the music.
