Where Is God When It Hurts?
Where Is God When It Hurts? is a self-help book written by Christian author Philip Yancey. Originally published in 1977 and updated in 1990 and in 2001, this book covers issues around the mystery of pain, of the physical, emotional and/or spiritual type.
The book uses examples from Biblical scripture and Yancey's own experiences to help the reader understand why people suffer, how to deal with personal pain, how to help others cope with their own pain, how to accept that which cannot be understood without resorting to blame, anger or fear, and how faith in God can help in times of personal suffering.
The 2001 reprint of the book includes updated material written in the wake of the events of 9/11, including a dedication to those who were killed in the Islamic terrorist attacks on that day and their surviving loved ones, with the proceeds from the book's sales donated to the American Red Cross.
