Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem is a famous Public House (pub) in Nottingham, England. It claims to be the oldest pub in the UK, dating to AD 1189. The pub is cut out of the soft sandstone of Nottingham Castle Rock, and is formed from several interconnecting tunnels and caves. Its name is derived from the Crusades when English knights would stop and have a final drink after leaving the castle, before embarking on their 'Trip to Jerusalem'. The pub also houses an allegedly cursed galleon - a model ship, which according to legend, causes the sudden death of all those who attempt to clean it. Today the galleon is housed in a case in one of the bar rooms, and is extremely dusty indeed!
