Zechariah, father of John the Baptist, is mentioned repeatedly in the Gospel of Luke, particularly in Luke, Chapter 1, as the father of John the Baptist.
Zechariah was rendered mute for his disbelief at the promise by the angel Gabriel that his wife Elizabeth would conceive a son (John the Baptist in her old age. Zechariah began speaking again upon John's birth, and immediately praised God.
Zechariah may have been murdered by Herod's soldiers for concealing John's location during the Massacre of the Innocents.
